I have a soto stove and I am going to Alaska in a month. I was wondering what the easiest way is to get stove fuel there. I am taking planes all the way to the lodge, so buying it in Alaska still isn't going to work. I thought I remember reading about converting to a different fuel, but can not seem to remember. Thanks for the advice

I think fuel is a no go on all commercial flights. After Anchorage (assuming you fly into Anchorage), where are your connecting flights, mainly the last flight to the lodge and what are you flying in for that last flight? You could also ask the lodge what is the best way to get fuel to them.

So, I fly into fairbanks and from fairbanks I go on wright air to coldfoot. From there, I will be picked up by the outfitter and fly to his place.

You could also run a multifuel stove like an MSR whisper light international. Those things can burn gasoline. I have a buddy who biked all of South America and mostly burned gasoline. It is much dirtier than white gas so you would have to clean it more often.

You will only be allowed to fly with Coleman gas/white gas on a scheduled Wright Air flight, and you won't be able to find the isobutane canisters in Coldfoot. If you really want to take a isobutane stove, I would contact the lodge and see if they have any available for sale or, if not, see if they could get some.

Thanks guys, I sent a message to the outfitter, I will see what he says. These small details are a PITA. haha. Super pumped to be going on my first Alaskan hunt.

if you take a white gas stove make sure it is clean.
I took a whisper lite and had a new, in the shrink wrap tank for it. they almost threw the tank out. I had the regs printed and in hand when, by chance, they came looking for me. it took quite a lot of talk and reading for them to let the tank go through.

do call your contacts up there as many will keep propane and iso canisters hid in the back.
