I need a larger pack system as a do all. I really like bigger bags. Especially even for late season day hunts.

New to SG. I've been using Kif for the last 10 years.

My buddy has a 7000 and it's a sleek system. Lays and compresses flatter in day mode vs a big Kif.

He said don't worry about going to big and I tend to agree. Been on a few late season deer hunts and I'll shoot a buck with a small bag. It's tough to pack a deer out plus cold weather kit and have enough room.

I have a 5900. My son in law uses a 6900. We use it for everything, including a simple day hike.

I wouldn't worry about the bag as much as I would about their frame system fitting me. Make sure you can swap out their stays for aluminum ones in case it doesn't fit you out of the box (which is likely).

Not necessarily - what you need is stays that fit YOUR spine specifically. This is why aluminum stays are key as you can bend them to match your curvature. This can't be done with composite stays, whether it's Xcurve, Duplex, Krux, Exo, etc.

I strongly suggest testing a few different frames with heavy loads, getting the one that feels best, and then replacing the stays anyway so you get the perfect fit.

I thought my Duplex Lite fit me fine until I swapped the stays out, the difference is immeasurable.

I have a SG Sky Guide 7900, so far I’ve really liked it. I bought it last fall and used it on an Idaho mule deer trip. Hiked in roughly 3 miles with a full pack (camp, rifle, tripod, big spotter, etc.) and it was comfortable. From there I used it out of base camp as a daypack. It worked great for that since you can strap down the top part of the bag and then just use the horseshoe zipper all day to get into and out of the main section of the bag. I never felt like it was too big. Ended up shooting a nice buck and it handled pack out great.

While true you can customize aluminum to your back shape, foam thickness, density, and lumbar are part of the equation as well. Same goes for height. What’s interesting is stone glacier is actually offering a shorter stay length frame - and I haven’t seen a single email, marketing ad, social post, nothing. Strange.

I’d want to be probably 5’10” or so (and/or longer torso) for the x curve, just because the top of the stays are tipped past parallel (vertical).

I haven’t used the sky guide, just the sky talus, but did enjoy that larger bag, it compressed extremely well.

Yeah, frame height is crucial. If you're getting a lot less than a 45-degree load lifter angle, you need a taller frame.

Ive got a 6900 that I use for everything. It compresses down way better than my hunting partners kifaru. I wouldn't be scared about going with the 7900 as my do it all pack.
