The short of it is we pulled a waitlist slot on a 10 day South Brooks Range hunt from Sept 9-19. We realized that it was going to be cold and wet so my one splurge piece of gear was a tent and stove. There are a lot of options out there but I ultimately decided on the Stone Glacier 6p tent for 3 guys, gear, and an extended stay in a pretty remote area that is known for crappy weather.
The tent goes up and down with ease and kept us dry and warm. We never had an issue with either of those three main factors. Beyond that was just organization and storage inside the tent. While this is a 6P tent, this is obviously setup perfectly for three guys and gear. There are three main walls that have near identical storage pockets on them for three cots and people. The zippers, windows, vents are all in the right place. The stove works out perfectly in here. I ended up choosing a Winnerwell Fastfold PLUS Titanium Nested Pipe in size medium and it was the right size and heat displacement. While the weather was not that cold it was definitely wet. The nights just touched freezing and we would fire up the stove right before we fell asleep to take the dampness out of the air, get some of our stuff dry, and have a nice cozy atmosphere to change into sleeping clothes.
We kept the floor in the tent and put a firemat down for the stove itself for most nights with exception of the last night. Since the tent goes up with ease, the last night we broke down camp and set back up closer to the extraction point. We didn't have any flat ground near the extraction point so we ended up just taking the floor out of the tent and still putting the stove in, but with the floor out it was a little less awkward on the inside given the ground conditions.
All in all there is not much I would change to this tent (and I have gone through a lot of tents). The two things we came up with was to (1) swap out one of the zipper pull colors so you could quickly see what you were pulling (2) sew a couple grab handles on the tent bag. We were a fly-in camp so we took the tent bag (+some additional stuff in that duffle) onto the plane complete. It would be nice to have some smaller grab handles on the duffle. Very minor requested mods for something I felt like we did our fair share of test cases on.
