Stone Glacier Dehavilland Pants vs First lite Corrugate Foundry

Hey y’all,

I’m looking to compare stone glacier’s Dehavilland pant and first lite corrugate foundry pant. Both intrigue me but I’m not sure if they are competitors or comparable. They seem to me like they are both mid season pants which can be pushed to the later season.

Anyone who has experience with both pants and could provide some insight between the two them would be very helpful. Thanks!

I have the corrugate foundry. They are an ideal early mid season pant. I chose them due to stone glacier I’m being very helpful. They seem to perceive the De havalland as a heavier material. That is best I can answer. The corrugate foundry is really awesome

I have corrugate foundry, amazing pants, hard to imagine how they could be beat. Dehaviland is probably better compared to the catalyst from first lite as they are both soft shell.

This would be correct. Most of the guys working at stone glacier will suggest for really cold weather the combination of helio bottoms and de haviland

Not familiar with the SG pants but put 4 days and 48 miles on my corrugate foundry pants on a hunt last month. Temps from 8 to 70. I really used the big hip vents a lot. I did not find the knee pads to cause any issues. I do not even notice them. Had some small pulls after walking through lots of thorny brush. I wore zip off merino bottoms under them most of the time. Good pants.

i have a pair of dehavilland‘s coming and can compare them soon.

But even without that comparison, I think the Corrugate Foundry’s should be strongly considered in any system.

The Corrugate Foundry are my favorite pair of pants for backpack hunting. They are comfortable from 0-80 with smart layering. The hip zips are great for venting and removing/adding layers. The pocket layout is dialed in for best use. The waterproofing in the right areas. The removable knee pads add an option that is nice to have but you don‘t have to constantly have in. And the most underrated aspect is the way they changed the suspenders location to work better with a hip belt. Suspenders are a must for backpacking and I find with wanting room for some baselayers and also the fact that I tend to lose 10lbs or so throughout hiking/hunting season, the suspenders are preferred to a belt if I only have one pair of pants on a trip. They’ve been durable so far.

This is a great bit of advice. I have the Foundry and instantly fell in love with the suspenders vs a belt. Hip zips are a must for any pant in my opinion and I used KUIU pants exclusively for years because of the hip vents until the Foundry was introduced. I like the Foundry much better than KUIU simply because of the suspender design and my hatred of belts.

Haven't used SG pants to compare.

I owned the DeHaviland Pants and own the Foundry Catalyst. To be honest, I do give my nod to the Catalyst pant. To me, they both weighed the same (to me) when I had them on. The length on the Catalyst worked better for me, and the suspenders sold me! I am excited to use the knee pads in the fall (didn't have the pants this past season) and utilize them for stalking. The hip zips on both work great, and both have similar durability. Honestly, you cannot go wrong either way. I am going to buy a pair of the 22' DH pants after hearing that they will factory hem them for you, if you call them direct.

I was told the DH does not have a fleece backer on the inside, and I know the catalyst does.

Okay, let me know when you get them in.

I was told the Dehavilland does not have a fleece backer, so I figured comparing them to the corrugate foundry than the catalyst foundry would be more accurate.

I love my DH lites and I feel they are definitely lighter than the corrugate foundry and more suited for hot weather.

I did not care for the SG pants. The fastening, waist and crotch were never comfortable. Other than that they were good. Well made pants.

I love my corrugate foundry pants, pair with suspenders that they came with I’ll never wear a belt hunting again, I’ve worn mine from -20C (with layers of course) up to +30C. I went to these from the kuiu katanas, I didn’t think the kutanas were as tough as they were advertised. I had fraying and stuck going on with them, I love the large hip vents! Some mesh would be nice in there to keep debris out, but would most likely tear like my kuiu pants. Only thing wrong with the foundry is that the stitched on first lite logo don’t last long, mine is just a bunch orange frayed fibres there now

Own both, I like the First Lite pants better. Things I don’t like about the SG pants, the adjustable waist, the sewn in waist belt, and the fit in the quads/hamstring area. Things I don’t like about the FL pants the length was a bit short (I’m only 5’10”) and they have been sold out for awhile now. I really like the Catalyst Foundry pants. I wear these things all the time, love the fleece backing, not to warm and you can always open up the big hip vents if needed. I find myself wearing these more than I do a base layer under my regular uninsulated pants

Yeah, I’m not liking the adjustable waist on the DeHavilands—maybe I’m just at the “tight” end of the spectrum on a medium and I should jump up a size. The pocket options are pretty limited. The fabric is a little heavier than the Corrugate’s throughout, the zippers are more substantial. The inseam seems a bit short on the medium. I definitely prefer the cut on the Corrugates, it’s a much more versatile pant and has the options of knee pads.

Good info on that, I've been looking at SG pants but definitely leaning more to FL due to what you mentioned. Thanks!

Thanks for the info. Like I told jd1006 I was leaning more toward SG because I heard that FL was having some durability issues but I'm assuming that has mostly been remedied now.

So I bought some stone glacier dehavilland’ s and I’d argue they are very similar to the FL corrugate foundry’s with regards to textile thickness and overall pant weight. The catalyst foundry’s I owned were definitely beefy and much heavier than either of those two options.

Are the SG polyester or nylon? I have a few pairs corrugate foundry, and like them. I know the SG lite version is nylon and caught my eye.

Both the regular dehavilland and the lites are nylon pants. I own both and I think the lites are more versatile. I think they would be more comfortable to wear in the early season heat compared to the FL corrugate foundry’s. But you could also use a baselayer under the dehavilland lites to extend them to mid season. The foundry’s just excel in performance because of the waterproof seat and knees.

This is an old thread, but figured I would add in my opinion since I’ve had both. I’ve worn the FL currogates for a couple years since they first came out. Love them. Love the suspenders. The only thing I notice is that the pants just start hanging off of me by the end of a hunt and they are a bit baggy on the thighs so there is a lot of fabric rubbing noise.
I got a pair of used de Havillands because the size 36 currogates are just too big now that i dropped a little more weight and it’s hard to find size 34 regular being resold. I have worn them for hikes and rucks and about to take them on my first hunt. I like how they are tighter on the legs than the currogates and I like the adjustable waist band so far. It does seem like they pick up dirt a little more than the currogates, but that’s not a huge issue for me. I honestly like them both a lot, although I would say the currogates are a little lighter material for warmer weather, but both have great hip zips.
