I think this was a great article and agree with it. The only thing I would add is those guys that swear by one product one year because they are on the companies "Pro Staff" then are on a different one next year. This is by itself isn't a bad thing I understand you have to pay the bills or butter up to the guy that is buying your Unit 16D NM landowner tag, but if this is the case then PLEASE, PLEASE at least have the guts to say why you switched up companies or why the new one is better. Actually compare it to your previous pro staff position. For instance if you were a Bad Lands pro staffer last year and this year MR is giving you free packs tell us why MR is better then Bad Lands and don't chicken out on actually saying Bad Lands and why MR is better.

I liked it and think we have seen this very thing on RokSlide, especially when it comes to product reviews. Over the last year or so I have chosen to be more selective about my posts, writtings and especially my pictures. This is the only forum I actively participate on because of the minimal BS.

Justin, what are your thoughts?

The nice thing about social media and web forums is that NOBODY IS FORCING YOU TO READ IT so if you have the ability to ignore tiny points of light on your monitor then you needn't worry about this trivial sh*t. Worry about Agenda 21 or something equally important to your hunting rights.

Other then adding that I think the article was spot on. I think a lot of it comes down to with point creep and the extreme cost of Land Owner tags, with opportunities so limited now unless cash isn't you see a lot of guys trying to get every inch out of every animal they take and feel the need to blow up every outlet on the internet to justify their position with a company.

On the other hand this promotion makes it harder for these guys to keep a position without them even knowing it. If you need great animals to show off your "Pro Staff" skills and set up an environment where you must have a hundred pics of all your gear and brag it up with each animal then it become extremely hard to compete with those individuals that can buy whatever gear they want, however many times they want and can afford to hunt the places most of us can't. We are blessed to live in a country where there are several people with these kind of resources (by percentage very small, but so are the type of guys that guy $400 boots and are on sites like this). If you make it cool and almost necessary to have pics with top tier equipment and giant animals then it will be those guys, the guys that really don't need any pro-staff positions that will be on every one.

I know quite a few guys personally who fit those very descriptions to a tee!!! Drives me nuts! I can only hope one day all the lies and deceit catch up to them and they can learn something from it but I doubt that'll happen.

Good article. I see this kind of stuff a lot in the fringes of the duck hunting circle I run into on a regular basis. Stuff like two guys will shoot 7 ducks together and each take pics of themselves with the ducks separately to make it look like they shot a limit by themselves. I don't get it. I've personally just got into waterfowling the last 3 years and finally killed my first buck this past season but never felt like I need to stretch the truth to gain credibility online. It seems to me that would be the fastest way to ruin your credibility lol

Good read...we all know peeps in all walks of life who glorify or falsify info to seem bigger than life itself..ie the fish story...the hunting industry is no different...I'm always looking for cold raw data ie field photos when I meet someone who's stories seem to good to be true. Buyer beware

Who cares what people are saying on the internet. You don't have to pay attention to them. Personally I don't find it hard to tell who I should be listening to for advise. The whole premise of the article in no way only affects hunting and will be found in any activity from military to scrap booking. It is everywhere.

Read the article this morning, was going to post it but you beat me to it, I agree with what the article is saying, fortunately my friends that hunt and guys I grew up hunting with aren't like that, unfortunately the Internet is full of them nowadays. Thankfully they are easy to spot

Good article for sure but I think most can read past the BS Rowdy Dowdies of the world, at least on this site, not clue about social media as I'm not on that junk.

If you only knew about waterfowlers. My neck of the woods in Arkansas is the duck capital of the world and you wouldn't believe what goes on in that state.

They forgot the category of the "Rokslide Faker" who learned everything they know about backcountry hunting from the comfort of their living rooms by reading this site

Edit: I should add, I am increasingly getting the feeling that guys who get really caught up in what other guys are doing are like the guys who spend more time at the urinal looking at peckers other than their own. IMO one of the greatest perversions of our pursuit is making it a competition among hunters.
