Stocky’s Hunter VG Tikka stock

I finally got my rifle back from the gunsmith and had time to put the stock on. The bottom metal inlet took quite a bit of work to get both the stock and lumley bottom metal to sit properly. I also noticed that the bottom metal does not sit flush with the stock. Other photos of bottom metal from this thread also appear to not sit flush.

I got the sporter contour barrel channel and it’s a tight fit. I checked and it’s free floated all the way to the receiver. Overall I think it looks pretty good and the final weight, as pictured is, 8.4lbs.

What is everyone torquing their action screws to? I have them at 45 lbs currently.

I have mine at 65 inch pounds.

Has anybody installed flush cups in theirs? Particularly interested if there is enough material in the forend to install one? I had a vg2 and there was no problem but the vg hunter looks like it may be thinner

I have one Lumley bottom metal and its fits tight in all my stocks. factory, Stockys, pure precision. Function is great though.

I’ve done from 55-65in lbs it all shot the same for me.

I ran a few pieces of sand paper down my barrel channel to open it a touch on my t3x lite contour. It was free floated but not much wiggle room. Gave me piece of mind to have a solid gap.

I did some modifications to my stock like others have. After consistently being recommended Free Form Air, I decided to use that product.


I first mocked it up until I got the grip I wanted. Then I took some measurements so I could duplicate it.


Then I added the free form air epoxy a little proud of where I wanted to end up so I could sand it down.



Then I sanded it back to where I wanted it, or at least as close as I could.

Finally I added some gorilla black epoxy and did a little bit of texture to it. I have a little more texturing than I was initially wanting but it is hard to get that part just right. I might try and get some green paint and add some sponge paint to it, but it’s essentially done. I went with an angled grip instead of the vertical grip, because I like a little swept back grip for position shooting. This angle will work good both positional and prone for me.

It was a fun little project customizing the grip. I’m going to add some quick detach inserts at some point. And once my 6cm barrel gets in, it will be all ready to go.

Here's a trigger reach mod I just did on my VG2 using the free form air. I wanted to replicate the vertical grip on my MPA chassis, so I built it out as far as I could without interfering with the action screw and bottom metal inlet. Pretty happy with how it turned out. Trigger reach is now close to 1in. Thanks for everyone who shared photos, that was extremely helpful.

Very nice! Did you sand the grip before applying the free form air or did you just put it directly on the finished surface?

I just stuck it directly onto the the finished surface of the stock. It seemed to grab on fairly easy.

Maybe 2oz? It is very lightweight material. I forgot to take a picture but I weighed the stock before I put the rifle back together and I believe it came in right around 29-30oz.

Yes it was really easy to work with. And it sands down really good. You can really fine tune your desired shape. Here’s a photo of before and after sanding.

I’m curious if you did anything to the carbon stock to prep it, such as sanding with low grit, or add something mechanical for the free form air to grab to.
I’d like to do something similar to my rifle I’m just uncertain about the bond between the Freeform air and the stock.
