Stock wheels?

I've never done aftermarket because I'm frugal. However, after buying my Tundra I found a guy selling the same stock Tundra wheels with the near new stock Michelin LTX tires (including the spare) for $500, so I bought those. IMO that was a steal.

I’m cheap and always had the mindset, fancy rims and tires are like a Louis Vuitton purse for men. I get it if your building out some rock crawling jeep but see no other purpose

Stock and I buy an extra set off takeoffs from you fellas that can't stand stock wheels...I will swap out the spare to match and I keep another spare in the bed..That leaves 2 extra for when I mess one up off road. The last set I picked up I got the tires too, less than 30k on them. I use my truck to much to worry about how it looks.

I haven't done aftermarket wheels, but I am noticing one positive. I upgrade tires like most and that comes with weight and lower gas mileage which equals less range. I'm finding aftermarkets can weigh less for the same or better strength at less weight. The net weight is around same but better tires and same-ish mileage.

That is a consideration. But ultimately i dont think its enough to make a difference. I just went from 37lb factory tires to 66lb E rated AT tires. The lightest tire i found was around 58lbs. A Cooper i believe. Rim choice isn't going to make a big difference here.

Last time I priced tires, I ended up going from the stock 20" to 17" aftermarket wheels and tires for the same price as just the 20" tires. 17's in the same diameter and width are still 50-100 less per tire.

Overall, it's a better setup for the rocky places I take my truck. I did have one sidewall tear on the 20's from a pinch at the rim. 17's won't do that.

That said, in 5 trucks I've only done aftermarket wheels on 2. I bent the hell out of two wheels on the first in a fit of winter fun.

I put stock '18 truck rims with 35x12.50's on my 80 series. It looks much better in person.

I usually just keep it stock. We bought a new Bronco in 2023 and was tempted to upgrade, but never got around to it. Only had that vehicle about 18 months before we got tired of it and traded for a Toyota. Glad I didn’t put more money into the Bronco.

My F150 Black Widow came with aftermarket wheels and tires already installed, otherwise I don’t think I’d fork over the money.

I did the opposite. Mine came with big ol stupid tires and wheels, I finally found a set of RW wheels and went with 285s.

200 x3 x5 for the full size matching spare = 3000

Anyone with internet access can scoop a t3x lite, ab-10 and a nf shv for 2400-3k.

Ohhhh....

First set I paid $400 for, sold my stocks for $500, plus the tires I got with them for another $200, so they basically cost me $100 (for wheels that retail for $450/ea), second set I paid $1,000 for with new tires, decided I didn't like how they rode, selling them for $1,2000...

Which makes the set I'm buying new even cheaper, because I'm cash positive on the last 2 sets.

If I keep outer diameter the same (which I do) the spare doesn't have to change.

Another thing with the aftermarkets - costs add up quickly. Had to replace my tires recently and just went with the same set (BFG KO2) since they rode so well. My rim size is 22" (didn't get to pick, just what was on the truck) and wish Black Widow would have gone with 20" instead.

The 22" rim size increased the cost per tire pretty significantly compared to a 20".

I split the difference…aftermarket factory wheels. Still Toyota, just not what came on it.

Having to run studs 5+ months a year, and not waiting or paying for a shop to swap, we have aftermarket wheels for every vehicle.

My truck gets used hard, even with "cool looking" wheels. It's not a one or the other thing, it just makes sense where we live.

Stock steel wheels on anything other than a half ton. Half tons I really don’t care what people do with them but there’s a reason why HD pickups rarely have aluminum wheels

Most come with aluminum wheels factory for the past decade.

I’ve seen a lot of after market wheels crack or bend and I don’t think I’d like that. Must just be a cheaper del and I’m sure guys on here are buying quality 80% of the time

Most aftermarket wheels are cast and barely rated for the weight of the unloaded vehicle. Forged wheels more gooder, just look at the 18 wheelers who care about weight.

This. With two changeovers/year at $100+, aftermarket wheels pay for themselves after a few years.

That's 3+ nonresident tags, a new suppressed tikka with a nightforce scope, 2 or 3 flagship bows, an automated progressive reloading press, etc etc.

With that logic, don't mention Tikkas, which apparently need aftermarket everything
