If you have one of the Stetson Outdoor Felt series hats, how do you like it and is it worth the $125? How about fit especially if you have a very large hat size. You probably know what I mean ….. comfortable hats to fit your large head are few and far between. If you bought it online somewhere other than Stetson, where did you get it?

Day after snow day here in north Georgia. Snow/ice still melting, still in the house, and bored so it seemed like a good day to pose such an inconsequential question about hats. 😁

I have one of the Orvis crusher hats that I use all the time. I wore out my first cabelas one with the ear flaps. I won’t ever be without one I don’t think. The Orvis one has held up really well being stuffed in a backpack and then pulled back out and right back to shape. I think if I get another one I will look at ones from The Sporting Gent. Great guys there and I really like the hat.

So first off, if you were running the entire Sitka line you'd be able to go on about your normal life regardless of the weather.

But seriously, I'd never buy a Stetson I couldn't try on. I don't have that specific one, and I love their hats... But some of their 7 3/8 fit me great, sometimes I need a 7 1/2, and sometimes a style doesn't fit me in any size.

I have one, it's a nice hat. Unfortunately for me I have odd shaped head and it doesn't fit quite right. I'd be willing to sell mine if it is your size?

Crusher's were the thing when I started backpacking in the mid 1970's... Id never pay $125 for what is essentially a cheap wool hat.

Here's your huckleberry:

I have a Stetson mountain Sky crushable hat, and I love it for its purpose. It’s my African hunting hat. Can take it on the plane. Don’t have to worry about it if I need to jam into my pack when traveling.

I wear a straw or felt Stetson 99% of the time daily wear. The crushable is great in Africa because it’s quiet if it rubs against brush and easy to clean. Multiple trips to Africa. Personally, I think it’s worth the expense. I purchased mine in person, but would feel OK ordering online as long as they have free exchanges for size. I generally wear 7–1/8 inch and I went with a medium.

I don't have that exact hat but I have its close cousin. Dorfman makes an "outback" hat that Stetson sold under its own brand name and you can find them in Murdoch's, Scheels, etc. Dorfman makes it, but it's branded "Stetson" inside, and when I compared it to the Outdoor Felt line in the store, it looked and felt very similar. It's a very comfortable hat.

If I got another hat that I was going to do anything "rugged" with (like hunting) I'd look at their Crushable line. There's overlap between the two (the "Mountain Sky" and "Gus" are listed in both categories). But the Crushables can really take a beating without looking shabby. My 2c.

I wear an XL, if it matters. Fit was spot on. I don't buy hats online. Other than Shelta, I've had fit issues with every hat I've ever done that with. YMMV but hats are like shoes to me. I think you really need to try them on to get the best fit.

Thanks for the crusher hat leads. I have a Shelta that I’ve had 6-7 years probably. That thing will stay on your head in a hurricane, or while running wide open in a center console on the flats! Great hat.
