Finally got my Stealth Project Recon direct thread .30 cal (now called bolt) out of jail after a 14 month wait for the BATF to approve my form 4. This is my first suppressor so I can’t make any direct comparisons to their competitors. After firing it on my 24” 6.5 Creedmoor and 20” .22 GT, what I can tell you based on my observations is...

-It is no ear-pro quiet, so quiet that I never want to shoot without it again.
-It reduces recoil significantly over an unbraked rifle, nearly as much as my VG6 muzzle brake.
-POI shift with vs without was minimal, only .1 mil.
-It is very light weight.
-Workmanship seems top notch.
-It cools down very fast. With my chamber chiller, in seconds.
-Wrench flats make disassembly for cleaning easy.

Seems like a great product to me and I look forward to its continued use.

Still no criticism so far. You’re right about not much being said about them. Can’t figure why. Seems to be a good product to me. Shot this 10 shot group with mine from my .22GT, if that’s any indication of performance.

Have you noticed any difference in the first round "pop" when compared to subsequent rounds? If i try a stealth project it would be for a hunting application and I would like to minimize the first round pop

I haven’t noticed that the first round sounds significantly different than subsequent rounds. I can say that the above group was shot from a cold barrel, no difference in POI from the first round to the last, if that matters.

Is that even a thing on bolt action rifles? Or any rifle that isn’t being rapid fired? I sure havnt noticed it on any of my bolt action guns (rimfire and center fire) I have noticed it on semi auto 22s though (never shot or saw shot a semi auto center fire with a silencer).

I’ve had one of these suppressors for a few years now and have ran it in an AR15, AR10 and a Rem 700 6.5 PRC with great results in all of them. I actually went to the shop at Mike’s, owner of the company, house where they were being made at the time and he walked me through the process of how they are made and his theories as to why his are superior to other designs. Long story short I purchased one and am very happy with this decision.

As someone who wears a hearing aid, my only criticism is wear hearing even it it is hearing safe. Once you lose hearing, you rarely can get it back.

@Hondo64d do you have any more feedback after 2 years with this stealth project suppressor? It still seems like one of the most affordable options for me to get into a hunting suppressor but there still isnt much out there on it compared to the $1000+ options... which arent an option I can consider

I have the bolt hunting model. It is a good product and I am happy with its quality and level of suppression. I have used it on several of my hunting rifles, my M1A and a 300blk pistol and no issues. There is a poi shift from going from suppressed to non, but that is to be expected.

My biggest gripe is that when I bought mine the company was changing ownership, well someone decided to rename my suppressor model on paper and that didn't match the model name on the can itself so after an 11 month wait I had to redo everything.....everything. ATF was no help, silencer shop was no help and my dealer was no help. They couldn't amend my paperwork and they wouldn't push through it expedited. Even Mike, the previous owner of the company called me personally to explain what happened he even offered me a free upgrade to the next model which I accepted but never happened...shocker. Long story short.... it took 23 months to un-fack the snafu before the can was in my hand. Lots of a$$ pain along the way.

So in summary.... it is an average entry level can that is a good first can for the price. Don't know who owns and runs the company now, could be Trump himself and I wouldn't buy another one of their products. I applied for, cleared and and was sending rounds down range with 2 other cans from 2 other companies after this fiscal started. All before the stealth project was in my hands.
My 2 cents....

I’m still using the can. It’s the only one I have. I did have a failure of sorts. Stealth project has caliber specific inserts available that make it a little quieter than just running the .30 for everything. One of those came unscrewed and a subsequent round struck the insert, ruining the core. Sent it back to SP and they replaced the core. Mine also had a tendency for the end cap to not stay tight, allowing a little leakage around the seems. I fixed that by disassembling it, doing a thorough cleaning and reassembling it using Rockset on all the threads and seams. Now it works fine. I’ve had limited opportunity to make direct comparisons with other cans, but did get to shoot a Banish 30, and it is quieter than my Stealth Project Recon.

wow, @Steelruger22 that sounds like a nightmare with the name change and waiting 23 months! I guess that is the risk when we are working with smaller companies vs the big brands... But I really appreciate you giving the review of the product quality and performance separate from that experience!

And @Hondo64d thanks for the update and caution story on the inserts. Glad they took care of you though.

I am OK with it not being the quietest can - I am really chasing reduced recoil without the extra noise of a brake for my son to start hunting. Going quieter is a huge bonus, but not the driver. The extra blast isnt appreciated by anyone but especially kids. And it makes it more complicated getting both of us set up for the shop while the suppressor would make that easier .... just more money - like I cant consider the banish budget wise.
