States laws on mechanical broadheads and lighted nocks

Does anyone know where to find a chart or list of states that do not allow mechanical broadheads or lighted nocks?

EASTMANS did a write up in EBJ a while back about electronics and where you were good and not otherwise I'd just go to specific states and call if you don't want to navigate website and ask for legal definitions of Broadheads and electronics.

Unless it recently changed, MT allows mechanicals but they cannot lock open in a "barbed" fashion and still no lighted knocks. Or anything at all considered bow-mounted electronics.

Utah- NO sight light, nothing to make the pins or target apear bigger while aiming (scope). Nothing against mechanicals but you have to have a certain cutting diameter, lighted knocks are fine.

Actually I think Utah might have changed the sight light....... Ill check on that one again and get back. You couldnt a few years ago, buddy got ticketed for having one attached even though it had no batteries... I dont run one so i havent checked lately!

Colorado won't allow lighted nocks, a light on ur sight or any electronic devices on ur bow. But you can have lighted reticles on ur rifle scope

Yeah you cant even put a Camera on your bow in colorado its kinda retarded. I get it for Lasers and such, but not even a camera? Anyways Good thing is you can use pretty much anything you want for Predator hunting. Lighted Nocks, Flashlights on your bow. They dont really care on the Predator hunting.

Per the 2014 Montana Regs:

"Arrows must have broadheads with at least two cutting edges. Expandable broadheads are legal as long as when expanded they are at least 7/8 inches at the widest point, and weigh no less than 70 grains"

Not legal:

"A bow sight or arrow which uses artificial light, luminous chemicals such as tritium, or electronics"

The other issue with mechs is of the classify as barbed, in some states if your mechs lock in the deplo position tey are considered barbed. They reall just need to pass a federal law regulating all this and make manufacturers adhere to it. Would make deciphering regs a heck of a lot easier.

ya your probably right. i dont have a problem with reading the regs for everystate i hunt. at this point i use the same setup( regular nock, fixed head) wether extras are allowed or not. my main issue is with retailers selling items to archers that are illegal in their state but not notifying them of that, especially with young archers. ive seen it happen numerous times.

Retailers are in business to sell products and make money. They have no responsibility IMO to educate purchasers on state hunting laws.

I would disagree. Im not saying they cannot sell it but how about a disclaimer, or a warning. instead ive heard people openly indorse the product to be used.

I agree with the disclaimer, I try an fill in anyone I see that may be buying something in Colorado that may be illegal. A lot of new guys just gettin into archery I've seen always want the sight lights and lighted nocks. I also believe Colorado will not allow curved bladed broadheads (toxic and crimson talon). But I hate seeing the products in local stores especially with people coming in and buying them not reading regs. I actually overheard a guy at cabelas selling a gentleman a sight light and lighted nocks, I went about my business kinda listening and when I learned the guy was hunting colorado I stepped in and alerted him and the salesman of the regs. We finally got the local mom an pop sporting store to stop carrying sight lights and curved blade broadheads. But also i always read the regs every year before I hunt just to make sure I'm legal, if you don't read them and don't have someone to warn ya it's in you, the Colorado regs can be spotty in areas but if you look at them an really read them you will understand. I almost got hit my first year archery hunting with the crimson talons, they were given to me and right before I left the truck had a funny feeling so I reread the regs an realized they were illegal, switched to my backup arrows that were tuned with muzzys.
