Starlink power

Does anyone use starlink or starlink mini off of compact batteries and some type of solar? Looking at doing this for a few hunts where I made need to do a few things with internet while there and wondering if it’s feasible and what I’d need.

How many hours per day would you be using it? And for how long?

My Starlink gen 3 averages about 40w draw. Much higher for a few minutes when initially plugged in and searching for satellite (150-175w) and higher if it’s cloudy or raining (75w-100w+). You can use those values to determine what you would need based on how you would use it and for how long. For a 12V battery this would equate to about 40W/12V=3.33amps per hour of use.

A 100w solar panel would keep up during your mid day full sun hours. Would need more for consistent prolonged use.

I only plan on using it for a little bit some afternoons and about 10 minutes at night before bed.

My thought is to use some kind of battery pack to run the starlink for when I’m using it and the times I’m not just plug the power bank into a 60-100 w solar panel to keep it charged. Just not sure what type of battery I need and what starlink hookups I’d need

Have used a power block as well as a 12v garden tractor battery for the mini. Have read that its advantageous to run at 24v if possible. Typically run for a 6 days off grid using in the evening to check emails and more detailed weather than off the inreach. Use the same power supply to charge 3 iphones as well as 2 inreachs.

I’ve thought about that as well. I don’t have any m18 left anymore. So that would be a significant cost to use vs a portable power bank

I would say it depends on how portable you need it. The brother in law runs his on dewalt 20volts. Good if you have access to batteries and a charger. Otherwise for a mid size option take a look at something like the brand “Jackery”. They have some mid sized ones with fold out solar panels that are around the 11lb range.

Is this for a backpack style hunt? If not, why not bring a small generator. Some of them are pretty cheap.

Not backpack, but a quad in with minimal packing space.

Friend of mine uses a solar panel and ANker battery. His star link does not draw very much at all

We recharge this off the tractor battery, buy it without the charging base and use a usb c cable to charge with a lighter plug

I have a starlink mini, it draws around 25ish watts once it is running. I can run it off of an Anker 737 for a couple hours if needed. But I mostly run it off of my main bluetti setup.

Yes, he uses the 1KW but it is overkill. He has a meter and I think the Star Link draws less than 20 Watts and his solar panel usually is producing at least 40. The battery is just there to run all his stuff for days in case there is no sun for solar.

I brought my starlink to camp last year. Ran it off my ecoflow. It died at the end of the weekend but 8 guys were using it.

Get you a little Jackery and a fold out small solar panels for it, it's all plug and play super easy.

I’ve used the standard Starlink on the Milwaukee M18’s and it does ok. Probably will be fine for your use. You get maybe an hour at the most out of it. Can’t remember exactly off the top of my head
