Looking at the electronically adjustable vari desks for my office job. Has anyone used one? Feedback? Other good options?

Would make a nice adjustable butcher table!

I don’t have a Vari desk model. But I use an electronic standing desk at work and at home. They are excellent. You’ll just have to make sure you have the appropriate monitor stands or monitor arms to adjust the screen height easily when switching between standing and sitting.

Taking the time to do some cord management on setup helps keeps the workspace looking clean as well.

Costco and Sams have some cheaper ones, but you want to be careful about the surface. One of them is a glass top so you need a mousepad.

Check slickdeals for a deal on a dual motor frame and then slap a piece of butcher block on top.

I've had about 500+ installed in the last few years. I've been steering end users away from the varidesk units that sit on top of the existing work surface. They are exceptionally better than varidesk when/if you have larger than dual 24" monitors because weight of the monitors starts making it difficult to lift the varidesk platform when you exceed a dual 24" monitor setup. Varidesk and other similar makes using the actual desk a royal PITA. I probably stand for about 1 or 2 hours a day at my desk. Sitting is hell on your lower back.
Electronic standing desk are good for like 100k cycles or more. I can only recall having an issue with 1 desk out of the many i've ordered and had installed

I have a vari-desk that sits on top of my desk. I'd rather have the whole desk move up and down as others have mentioned.

i originally bought the costco desk and ended up hating it because it has a bar across the bottom where my feet go. i gave it away and bought a much better one that does not have that bar on the bottom.

Don't forget to get a good pad to stand on.

I have a used a varidesk for a long time and stand more than I sit. I use one large screen that is quite large. Worked well for me.

Thanks. What are some of the top models that you would recommend? Any with a more rustic styling?

I don't necessary need the electric version - just seems like they are the most common. I don't like the spring loaded job that sits on top of a normal desk.

I see that there are some that raise and lower with other power sources, but they seem to be much more expensive.

I wasnt trying to be negative. About 8 coworkers have the stand up desks. They like em.

Had no idea about the electric versions.

Our office purchased a bunch of retrofit kits from HAT Contract - they are just the legs/motors/switches that can be installed on desktops in place of the original legs. They have all sorts of options but ours are seemingly basic - electric, relatively quiet, memory setting [four] with manual up/down for other custom heights, telescopic legs without intermediate cross braces.

I have had some back issues and the height adjustable desk has been good for that - and my posture too [which are most likely realted]. I raise/lower my desk several times throughout the day; others leave theirs up. The note above regarding monitors and mounting is spot on.

If yo go electric - they are nice and I believe the easier it is to use the more you will actually use it - but you need to measure out any cable lengths and plug distances; also need to watch for monitor heights in raised positions relative to wall mounted shelves, lights, pictures....etc.

I have an electric standing desk in the office, bought myself one of the table top ones for home. Not sure on brand but the office one is a nice L-shaped unit that’s super solid. The table top one is kinda heavy and a little shaky now that I have two monitors on it. When I lift it up, it also leaves my laptop down on the desk which is a little annoying but not terrible.

It’s nice to be able to stand for an hour or two and shake out your legs a bit. I find I’m not as productive when standing standing for whatever reason so what I’m working on will sometimes dictate when I stand.

I’ve looked before and there’s usually some decent deals on used ones.

Not sure what the model is of the one at work.

At home I’m using these legs with the large desktop from Structube. You could also just buy a set of legs and motor and install your own desktop.

Structube is not the highest quality, but I’m happy with the value. I run it with 2 27” monitors and a Surface Pro all mounted on separate monitor arms. It works wonderful.

I really like monitor arms as it clears up the desk space for your mouse and keyboard and anything else you might have. I attached a photo of when I was setting it up. It’s since had the arms re-arranged and the cables all cleaned up.

Just need to work on my wife moving some of her workout stuff….

I use an “Uplift” desk at work. Seems to work well, I like it. I am probably 50-50 sitting vs standing most days, so having it moveable is nice.

I prefer a fixed standing desk with a tall stool chair. I have been through a few version of my current setup, but is is basically just a big, adjustable Ikea table with added fully adjustable monitor stands, and an elevated keyboard stand.

Two important accessories for this setup is a foot stool and a standing pad.

Where are you finding used ones?
