Staball 6.5 as good as they say?

I’m looking into trying to consolidate powder and buy bulk instead of a few lbs here and there.

Looks like they did a big push for Staball 6.5and shows reloading data for many different cartridges.

I’ve tried it in the past in a 6.5cm and it was fine but gummed up my frankford powder dispenser so stopped using it. Plan would likely be to throw charges on some kind of progressive setup for something like 222/243/6cm/6.5cm

Is it as good and applicable as they say? Actually temp stable?

Never got absolute precision out of it, but velocity for me was usually as advertised with less powder than Hodgdon max data. 243/7-08/6.5cm

Edit: I bought it with specific intent to use in 7-08 so that’s where most of my experience with it comes from

I run 6.5 stabal in my 6.5 CM’s.
Two proof barrels and one Seekins, works fine for me. I’m running 140 eld-m’s with it. Same load shoots about .75-1” 10 rounds groups in all my rifles. Es/sd is good enough in all barrels. Like es of 20/sd of 10ish for 10 rounds. Been a while since I checked.
I mainly like to use it because it meters extremely well out of an rcbs uniflow powder dispenser. I’m talking like +- .1 at worst every time. Just dump charges and load. I weight every 10th charge just to make sure something funny hasn’t happened.
Makes it very easy to load big lots of ammo
I used it in my 6 cm as well but I’m currently waiting on a new barrel for that.

I’m whipping up an NRL powerfactor load for 6.5cm and 147eldm with it right now. Just need to be above 2585 with my 18” barrel.
I’ll let you know how it goes.

Id imagine you’ll get there. My 18” tikka 6.5cm sends them at 2480 according to 900 yard velocity truing but chronograph says 2520 with max load of H4350

I tried it and wasn't impressed with the speed or groups in my 22CM and 6CM. My 223 really likes Staball Match.

I have tried it in 6.5cm w 147eldm. It was fast and better than 1" (can't remember exactly) at 100 for large round count groups.

I never tested the temp stability but a few tests I've seen done with it in 6.5cm showed it to be very stable.

It meters really well. In a Lee perfect powder measure does 30 rounds with of ES 0.022 and SD 0.050. that's pretty good.

I also had great accuracy in a 30-06 w 150s and 30-284 w 185s.

I haven't done a ton of testing but I've had good results in my 18" XBolt. 100gr ELD-VT at 48.5gr was 3145fps with 0.4" groups. 147gr ELD-M at 43.0gr was 2588 and 2573 on two different sessions ~6 months apart. Only measured groups on the first session at 0.5". 44.0gr was starting to get sticky.

Have you tried N555? I really like
That for my 22 creed and 6 creed

I have not… I’ve tried N150 in my 223 and 6.5cm and it worked well. But reloading data is hard to find since Vihtavouri’s data they publish is very tame (European pressure standards)

N555 is the magic freaking sauce for my 7x57 and 30-06s.

I've tried Staball 6.5 in the 7x57 and 30-06, and it was not impressive for either velocity or accuracy. Metered great in a RCBS powder measure, though.

Where do you get your load data? Or do you just watch brass for pressure?

I use their App and I agree N555 works well for me.

Am I mistaken in thinking their app data is typically very slow compared to other Win/Hog/IMR/Alliant powders? At least in cartridges like 6.5cm,6cm,243, etc. 223 seemed about normal

Someone a while ago told me it was because the Europeans have different pressure standards but I could have misheard

I find I use about 1.5 grains more to equal the same speed as H4350. I don’t chase SD but with N555 I see single digits.

Just started playing with the Staball 6.5. So far I'm liking it. Pressure seems spikey when you find it though.
