SS34 Serving Wear

There's a handful of threads out there on RS and a pretty lengthy one on Archery Talk about the SS34 serving wear, so not much to rehash there, I kindof expected this to be coming.

Mine's been kinda borderline for a while and just recently had the "oh shit, i'm not gonna keep shooting that" moment. I noticed the top cam has gotten significantly worse and it looks like the string itself is starting to fray a bit.

Oh darn...guess i finally have an excuse to buy that bow press and learn how to change the strings and cables. I don't think i'll regret it, there's a lot of other tinkering I'd like to do and i've wanted a press for a while.

My question for others who have seen this issue, has anyone tried filing or physically modifying the cam, is it worthwhile? I've heard aftermarket strings fix the issue for a lot of folks so i'm planning to toss a set of Threadz on there. Just curious if anyone else has discovered any tips for dealing with/preventing this.

I've reserved a lot of strings/cables that have similar wear. It's hard to get an overall condition from the picture but personally, if I had a bow that ate servings, I would learn to serve and just fix the strings and/or cables anytime they wear or separate.

Lots of good string manufacturers, your best bet is to get on ebay and search them, GAS normally has common sets on there which are great strings. It's getting pretty close to the season to have customs made, most custom strings are good these days and I would personally get whatever set I could have here ASAP and give myself some more time to tune.

Agreed, thats why I initially was thinking threadz, their turnaround is pretty quick. Looks like Catfish is as well.

I ended up going with the Catfish Customs 452xtra based on Mike at Catfish's recommendation. Super quick response from them to my inquiry. It's a few extra bucks and a few extra days compared to Threadz but hopefully it's worth it.

Can you ask bowtech to replace the cam?

I haven't tried them, but I am interested in using Unbound Archery Stings for my next set.

If it chews up this set of cables in an unreasonable amount of time I will probably push on Bowtech a little harder, hoping the strings fix it for now though.

@hunthikecamp Update us on how it goes. I'm running the bloodlines. Looks like the 452xtra is the new hotness.
Will do, I'll probably end up starting another thread for the string swap and tune just to document how things go. This'll be my first time working with a press so gonna get my feet wet next week and just try changing draw length around before I dive in on strings and cables.

I haven't had that happen to my cp30. Gas will always get my nod.
This sure is the perfect excuse for you to get a bow press and start doing your own archery work. Be warned, it's an addictive rabbit hole but you'll love it. Podium archer on YouTube has tons of bow build/string swap videos to get started.

I think Bowtech may have fixed the issue in later production models. I purchased one about 6-8 months ago and the servings are brown/black and showing no signs of wear.

Yeah i think so, I've heard this as well. It seems like people have had luck sending the old ones back or pressing Bowtwch for new cams and they'll send them.

Id be curious to see a close up Pic of your upper cam just to see if anything looks different? I'll take a better pic of mine once I get it on the press and get the ratty string out of the way

They're on! Been messing around with it this week to get it tuned, I had a hell of a time with cam timing but I think it's probably more my own fault than the strings or bow's, learning as i go. So far the build quality looks great and I have no complaints.
