Squirrels are whittling in Missouri!

It has been cool here the past two mornings and Ole Betsy and I couldn't let that rarity go to waste. We got a brace yesterday and a brace today, but left plenty for future hunts. The squirrels are working on all the nuts they can find. I love this time of year!

As a Ozark resident, I am happy for the squirrel bounty we seem to have this year, but I am dismayed as a bear hunter by the early acorn drop.
It's the kiss of death for us every year when they drop before the season opens.

I have never shor one with a muzzle loader. What caliber are you using?

Ole Betsy is a 12 gauge smoothbore. My squirrel load for her is 65 grains 3F real black powder, 1 over powder card, 1/4" lubed fiber wad, 1 1/4 oz. #6 shot in a homemade paper shot cup, and 1 over shot card.

That’s a nice looking shotgun. The few I have seen had a short stock. Neat.
