Springfield Waypoint 6.5 prc gun and company problems

I have a Waypoint 2020 in 308. Best rifle I’ve ever owned. Tack driver. That sucks to hear all the issues folks are having with them.

That’s what a lot of people say about them. It just sure seems they have major issues with the 6.5prc. And their CS flat out sucks.

Hi all. New to the post. I have been having the same problem recently with my Springfield Waypoint in 6.5 PRC. Feeding problems and scarring on the cartridge below. It took me awhile to notice because during load development I was single feeding. After reading through this entire thread I decided to try a few things. I hammered down the ears on the magazine so the cartridges weren’t riding so high. I also took some 600 grit sandpaper to the bottom of the spiral bolt and slicked it all up. After doing this the the gun feeds just fine. I wouldn’t say it feeds buttery smooth by any means but I can cycle mine every time with no problems. It still takes quite a bit of force to close the bolt though. No issues other than that. You have to play around with the magazine when bending the ears down to find the sweet spot. Too much and the cases sit too low and the bolt won’t catch the case to feed them. A little higher than that and it’s perfect. It seems to work the best when the front of the cartridge is pointed down in the mag just a bit. The spiral bolt is pretty sharp so sanding it smooth seemed to help with the scaring and overall dragging on the case below. Hope this helps! I really didn’t want send my gun to Springfield. Other than the feeding problems I’m happy with this rifle and it’s the most accurate gun I have ever owned. It keyholes at 200 yards with 124 grain Hammer Bullets.

That's what I've been thinking too. Wish I could get used to that spiral fluted barrel. That is honestly my hold up as I think it's looks totally weird. If there was a carbon option or a non fluted option or a straight fluted option

I have a 2020 in 6mm creed and I am having issues as well. I’ve had the rifle for 8-9 months just haven’t sent many rounds through it until recent and am having ejection issues also. Mine is not dragging on the following round much but you can see a slight rub/scratch but nothing digging in. But an empty casing will not eject. It tries but acts like it hits the bottom of ejection port and falls back in. Wish there was an easy fix! Doesn’t sound like sending it is is much fun or use!!

Sent my rifle in and got it back within a few weeks which had me questioning any repair work being performed. I Pulled it out of the case and the action was just coated in oil. Threw an empty casing in and ran bolt. As I suspected fell right back in. I sent two Lapua casings with the rifle (which didn’t make the return trip) So they would verify that it would eject. Springfield did absolutely nothing other than put a quart of oil in it. Talked to LGS and sounds like we may just send it back for a refund. Really like the rifle the service on the other hand is awful!

That’s too bad but the same experience I had the first time I sent it in. Lots of oil and still only a single shot rifle.

It's crazy to think how many of these rifles in PRC have had this issue.

I picked up a non-adjustable steel-barreled 6 Creed in December and have been blown away with how accurate it is and how much I like it.

I hadn't heard about the issues with the PRC until I decided I needed one of those, but after seeing way too many threads like this, it seems like a Seekins Element is the only way to go for a shorter barrel to use suppressed.

By any chance, do you remember the name of the Springfield CS rep your gun shop dealt with? Just got off the phone with them with the same issue. Explained to him that I’ve seen multiple first hand accounts like yours of this issue, which included lengthy dialogue between owners and Springfield about the issue. This was after I was told that there’s no recalls on the particular rifle for that issue, nor has he ever heard of it. I find this very hard to believe, like they’re trying to play dumb, considering the sheer volume I’m beginning to notice of people having this exact same problem. The only thing I’ve noticed is mine, after some feed lip polishing and tweaking, empty brass extracts without issue, and brass gouging is greatly minimized.

Another update on my 6mm Creed. After I got it back from Springfield with nothing done to it. I got ahold of my local dealer. My rifle came from Davidsons that being said it had a lifetime warranty. We sent them the rifle and they send me one identical to the first. The thing works flawlessly. Has never failed to eject once. Also, is not scratching the following round. I never posted this earlier either but after that rifle came back from Springfield. I called Springfield and they told me since I wasn’t using (SAAMI) spec brass there was nothing they would do about it. I was using new Lapua brass! They said they used Hornady and it worked so they sent it back. I’ve been tempted to call them and tell them the rifle obviously had issues as the new one hasn’t skipped a beat but I feel as it’s a waste of my time!

Yeah I dealt with a guy named Dominick. He seemed genuinely so disinterested with my issue that it felt like if I spoke any further on the problem after initially explaining it, he was gonna hang up. It felt like a very awkward conversation. After he told me he’s never heard of the issue, I was just kind of baffled and didn’t really know what else to say to the guy. I managed to get the rifle to the point that it’s extracting brass flawlessly, extracting live rounds reliably with relatively slow bolt movement, and the feeding is noticeably smoother, but still unbelievably loud. I’m gonna stick with it and see where it goes. Just crossing my fingers that it’s actually accurate, and that my firing pin tip doesn’t sheer off Any other issues and I’m just sending it in and telling them to send me one in 6.5 creed. Those and 308 run flawlessly from what I’ve heard.

Update on my 6mm CM Waypoint with BSF Carbon Barrel. Not the smoothest action, but no feeding issues when cycling rounds at home. Barrel was verified for a 6mm (stamped and calipered). I took it out of the provided stock and dropped it into a XLR Element (for the folding stock and integral arca forend features). I was impressed when checking action and pic rail screws about how clean they were, no shipping oil etc.

Was sighted in at 100 yds in 8rds. Followed up with a 10rnd group 1.3" at 100yd. Average MV with factory 103 Hornady ELDX was ~2820fps. 20" barrel and TBAC Ultra 5.


I have since put ~120 rounds through it. Had a .8" 5rnd groups at 100yd (probably a .5" 3 rnd group but that doesn't matter). Had no issues taking it out to 300-1000yds on steel.



I am happy with this 'semi-custom' set up, fit/finish, accuracy, precision, repeatability, and would recommend. Feeding is consistent both slow and fast. A shooter next to me was on a 6.5CM Waypoint action and BSF barrel and was also happy with his.

I was concerned with some of the prior issues. I bought my rifle from Sportsmans Warehouse, and with their 1 yr service plan they said if I had any issues with it they would take it back (maybe the sales pitch, maybe real). Fortunately, I did not have to find out if that was a real, but it was a good feeling (a false sense of security is better than no sense of security). Really sounds to me like past issues are PRC related.

Did you get that issue resolved? I read about it about a year ago but no one at the time had a solution. Even blaming the magazine.

I can say i've owned a waypoint in 6.5 PRC for a about 12 hours after reading this thread! I bought my 6.5 PRC this past Saturday afternoon and returned it the next afternoon after getting it home and running into the same hard feeding and failure to eject problems so many of you guys have had. The next morning I started searching the web and found this thread and my new gun high was quickly gone. I tried all of the magazine tweaks, cleaned everything and re-oiled the action multiple times to no avail. I really didn't want to go down the rabbit hole with Springfield after reading all of the frustrating commits about their CS.The shop I bought the gun from had two 6.5 PRC's on the wall and I was hoping mine was the lemon, not the case though. Neither rifles could get a round out of the receiver. I showed them all of these commits and they refunded my money and will send both back to Springfield. I really liked this rifle so I'm pretty bummed Springfield hasn't owned up to a obvious flaw in there waypoint lineup. Now i'm back on the hunt for a new 6.5 PRC.

There are threads on all the forums about the 6.5 PRC’s having issues. At this point Springfield playing dumb is just a huge turn off to the entire company. Luckily they don’t have anything I want to buy. Still what a shame.
