Lots of talk on the winter range and summer range.
Where i live, in north idaho, i defiantely live in the spring range.
I am basically glassing elk everyday from the house right now. The hills around me are some of the first to green up.
Pretty cool watching all the pregnent females bulking up.
Anyway just sharing how cool it is to see elk every day, right now. Once summer hits and these hills are brown, i won't see any where near as many elk. I do have a pair of 15x56 on a tripod next to the kitchen table with 2 sets of 10x40's on the kitchen table. Heck the wife is even glassing for them. i kind of get a chuckle, when they are feeding in front of my gongs.

That sounds pretty awesome. I could get used to seeing elk from the window. Post up some pictures to let the rest of us not-so-well located folks see?

Love glassing elk from my house. We mostly see elk from late fall thru mid spring till it greens up above their winter range

I live in the spring-summer range. From mid-May to the mid July, the elk are in the field, yard and even bedded in the shade of the tractor. When I first moved up here, the cows would get up on the porch and stomp their feet in the middle of the night. I guess they liked the sound.

One spring there were 15 six pt bulls in the yard one morning. That was the year that I never saw a bull during the season. Most of my feeders are filled with elk poop as it getts baled up in the windrows.

Where they go during season is why they call it hunting.

I’m in central/lower Idaho and we regularly see them also but more so in the winter.
In the winter we get elk and moose in the front yard.
They always come for the crab apples.

Winter/Spring range around here is right on the outskirts of town. Not uncommon for me to see multiple elk on my drive to work. Took the attached photo in December of last year less than a mile outside city limits of Loveland, CO.

As soon as the hills across the HWY green up, I can glass elk feeding on the hill everyday from my deck. They follow the snow line up and over. They are too far for my wife's camera even with the 600mm lens. Here is a picture taken with phone of a herd moving through on their way out last winter.

I’ve seen a handful in that area as well passing through. Great encounter!
