Hello,
What is the general opinion on hunting spring black bear in northern Idaho or BC? Looking to book for spring of ‘24 but curious if anyone has hunted both and which they preferred? Also any outfitter recommendations for either would be great!

Thanks!

thank you, not trying to be duplicative. But specifically interested in experiences from someone that has hunted both.

Happy to delete the old thread if that’s best.
Thanks

I’m in southeast BC just north of Montana/Idaho. The good bear hunters that I know like glassing high elevation slide paths in early June. Dialing in the right elevation for new grass growth seems to be key and that can vary year to year.

How about going a little farther east?

What did you decide, Smores? Where did you go? How did you do?
Sorry for the delay!
We did Vancouver Island B.C. In may 2025. Canadian Guide Outiftters. It was a fantastic hunt!! Highly recommend. My bear squared 7’2”. My buddy shot the biggest that week at 7’5”

Not to hijack, but would you mind telling me about the Audad in your profile pic?? That's become a bucket list hunt for me, and I've been homing in on it for about a year. Where did you go and what did you think of it?

No worries! Aoudad was in west Texas. Near Alpine. Mike McKinney at West Texas Outfitters is who we used.

I had a blast, spot and stalk style. Got to spend a good amount of time glassing through herds. The ranch was about 30k acres with lots of varying terrain. Both my buddy and I took shots off of ledges which made it pretty fun.

The animal itself is pretty cool, way bigger than I anticipated. I think mine measured right at 32” and my buddy 33”. For an Aoudad ram it’s a good size.
