Just a personal opinion...buy just about any older generation alpha glass...good kowa or swaro will retain their value quite well over anything else. They worked great when they were new and they still work great today.

Hold out for the right deal, I paid 2k for my Kowa 883 with a case. With that budget I wouldn't consider anything less than alpha glass. Keep an eye on ebay too.
