sportsmatch rings to far back on tikka help

Ok basic question.

The sportsmatch rings have a pin that fits in a hole on the top of tikkas....If I use my bigboy strength would they be fine if I removed it so I could get that front ring further forward?

I found a base screw that fit the screw holes on top. The head was too big to fit in the pin hole through the ring so I put the screw in my drill and turned it down on a grinder wheel. Then used finger nail polish on the screw to thread into the hole on top. Set the ring over the screw. Torqued the base down. This was on a 17hmr but would imagine the same can be done on centerfires.

How much more forward do you wanna go. It won’t be far and the front of the rail flairs out and you won’t get a good bite.
