I’ll shoot a spike (or cow) the first 5 minutes on the first day of my 8 day Wyoming hunt next week if I get a chance. I’ll spend the rest of the trip eating elk and trout.

A few years back I got to watch a spike come into my treestand area and watch him feed....

He ignored every cow call I made ...

I eventually made a low volume location bugle....and he came right in.

Another time I had realistic cow head decoy below my treestand which I have fishing line tied to....as the spike was watching I moved the decoy....he spooked and ran away....lol!

So much for decoys....???

They're generally part of a larger herd from my experience, so you'll find them when you find a bunch of cows, some satellites, and the herd bull.
