I've been looking to come to ID for the last couple of years on an archery elk hunt after I'm done here in OR. I have been looking at going more into central ID since I've been deer hunting there for a few years and am more familiar, however, it's been pretty hard finding someone to commit to going. The southern ID is appealing because it is more open and I would feel a lot better hunting down there solo than the rugged mountains of central ID. I am very familiar with hunting elk in the open country and have good glass. One thing I noticed is that the South Hills archery tag I can go back later or even earlier and hunt one of the units for any elk for a good portion of the year near ag land, this would be great since it's only a few hours from home in NEO to drive out there and shoot a cow if it came down to it.

I have already talked to the biologist out there and gotten their feedback and have done quite a bit of research on IDFW website about it. I'm planning on making a weekend trip over this summer scouting and feel like I will get a lot better understanding of the country after that. If anyone has been there deer or elk hunting and has any advice it would be appreciated for sure. I'm really trying to find a good area to hunt for when I fill my OR tag, In the last two seasons I've filled my tag the first few days of my vacation and ended up calling for people for my two weeks of vacation. I would love to be able to just hop in my rig and zip over there and hunt when I fill my tag.

Thanks in advance, PM's Prefered
