Archery might be changing. There is a proposal that nr have to buy a small game license to apply and then raise the price of a tag. Also to limit the any deer tags to no more than 8% of what the residents get kinda like rifle deer. With the big amounts of nr hunting mule deer I can’t say I disagree
Do you have a link to this? The only thing I could find is for possible changes to antlerless whitetail tags for archery and muzzleloader seasons. Also 8% of what, tags are unlimited for residents. My dad drew a hills WT tag, 2 points for a resident! Crazy
Edit to add, congrats to those that drew a tag, bummer for those that didn’t. Maybe next year, I told myself that for a really long time for archery hills elk.

Used to hunt down there a lot. My brother lived in Hot springs. Can't speak to how it is nowadays, but in years past we had a lot of fun. Lots of walk in, plus my brother knew a lot of folks in the area so we were able to hunt a lot of private (that and he leased a bunch of land for a while too....)

How many points are the nonresidents needing to draw? I grew up in SD and drew WR almost every year, now as a nonresident I can't draw an any deer with 5 points?

that depends alot on the county. I would say for any deer your looking at 5-10 years. Deer numbers are way down in some areas they need to get rid of killing muley does and cut tags back a bunch. I have enough points to draw the wr tag i want but not blowing them till we have deer again

Your looking at a minimum of 4 on an any deer tag. We use to hunt WR every year or at least every other with any deer tags as a non-resident and times have definitely changed. It only took a few posts on a couple Internet forums and draw odds decreased dramatically.

Yeah times have changed. Used to bowhunt almost every year and prairie deer pretty much whenever I wanted for $100 as a non resident. Could literally walk out of my parent's house (in town) and walk half a mile and be bowhunting. Never saw another soul.... I think i have 8 prairie deer points now, some pronghorn and a couple of hills. Should have never left....lol.

They get the proposal to go through for 500 dollar tags and make everyone buy a small game license to apply it will fix the needing points thing
Hopefully your right but- People don’t bat an eye paying for special buck or bull tags in Wyoming. $500 will basically put SD inline with other states for a NR buck tag.
