Sort of new to archery

I shot archery in my teens and was one of the few things I found i was good at. Then life happened, I got chasing girls and now have had 2 surgeries repairing the rotator cuff and labrum in my left shoulder, so I expected to never use a bow again. A few weeks ago I bought a mathews lift 29.5 and im practicing everyday. Issue is from what some other guys have told me, the arrows the bow shop suggested when I got the bow aren't that great, I dont know a ton, theyre Easton and say 6.5 on them. They seem to shoot decent to where I learned quickly not to shoot at the same target because I ruined the knock on one. So does arrow and name really make that big of a difference? Should I look into getting different arrows before next year archery season?

Okay, awesome. I had a bunch of guys jump down my throat on social media saying I spent a ton on a bow then bought the cheapest arrows possible. Im just jumping back in so im learning all over again

There’s nothing at all wrong with those arrows. 6.5mm Eastons have been around a long time and have killed thousands of animals.
This is one of the few people on rokslide I would take archery advice from.

Most “6.5” arrows are yesterday’s technology. I think of them as a 2000’s Toyota Tacoma. Not pretty. Not new tech. Function perfectly fine and will continue to do so. If you want to spend more money, go for it.

I mean ive always been a fan of 2000s tacomas. As you said not pretty but they were built well and last

I never had any issues when I shot 6.5’s. Then chasing new tech and “fitting in”, I spent more money and got the cool kid arrows. I have zero doubts if I switched back to them (with a bow tune) I wouldn’t shoot any better or worse and would probably gain some arrow durability.

By all means, after this season, get new/smaller diameter arrows and re-tune/re-zero your bow. It’s only money and time-for a difference you may or may not even see.

Ignore them. Skinny arrows (4mm and 5mm) are trendy, but they cost significantly more and require more complicated (and often more fragile) components. The cons outweigh the supposed pros IMO. Good old standard diameter 6.5mm arrows have been killing animals for decades.

I was more worried about having a good bow plus ive ALWAYS wanted a mathews since I was a kid watching all the "cool guys" on TV using them. And now im just worried about breaking bad habits from not shooting in a decade. I used a crossbow for a few years and it wasnt the same so im just beyond happy to be back behind a compound bow honestly. And if im being honest I think my release needs upgraded more than my arrows because im using an old tru fire wrist release. Which is why im fighting to get my 10 posts because I saw a few releases in the classifieds id like to check out

Right on. I just didnt want to go out and be hunting with arrows that wouldn't do the job or would risk doing more harm than good. Im just happy to be back behind a compound bow because i have a ravin i used and it definitely worked and worked extremely well but it just wasn't the same. I dont knock anyone using a crossbow I don't care whatever gets you out there. But for me a crossbow just didnt feel the same as a compound bow.

I’m going to jump in with the others. It is my opinion that the social media guys you mentioned are suffering from confirmation bias to justify their new found favorite (see Might Mouse’s correct use of “trendy” above). I acknowledge also that they may be well-intentioned. The arrows you purchased are excellent and have a long history. As a matter of fact, a lot of guys who made the early switch to using 5mm arrows have seen no real benefit and have started transitioning back to 6.5 (standard size) arrows. Welcome back to archery and good luck going forward.

I appreciate it. I cant lie its a breathe of fresh air to come here and find that most of yall are helpful and respectful. Because social media you can't post anything looking for help because rather than factual help you get a bunch of guys with opinions that forget its their opinion and spread the information as if its gods honest fact. So I really do appreciate all of you!

A good release is important. That said, I still use, and have zero intentions to switch away from, my trufire hardcore releases.
