Soot on outside of case, 9mm

Anyone know what is causing this? Cfe pistol powder, 5.3gr, 115gr bullet not sure what kind, I found them laying around from 10+ year ago. Loaded on Dillon 650. Chronographed approx. 1000fps.

A lot of powders will be sooty with a light charge.

As others have mentioned this is common with lighter loads as they don't force the brass to seal as well.

From my experience loading 9mm for USPSA a little more powder would likely lessen the soot and provide more consistent velocities.

another vote for lighter loads. wont hurt anything.

Probably light loads. If pressure is not enough to expand the brass quickly it doesn’t seal to the chamber and gets more soot. Some chambers, ie mp5, are just dont seal and you get lots of soot with any load. Won’t hurt anything
