My 10 year old finally connected this year. We hit it pretty hard last year and saw a bunch of deer, but just couldn't get one to cooperate so he was really excited to get after it again this year. Opening morning opened up foggy and at first light, we could barely see 50 yards in front of us so he decided to take his customary lucky nap! He thinks it's lucky because he still hasn't put two and two together that dad still says awake and wakes him up when deer show up!
Around 830, it opened up a bit and I could see about 125yds and then this guy just ghosted in at about 110 yards, calmly feeding broadside. I woke him up and got him set up on the sticks. I was surprised how calm he was. We had a quick review of breathing and trigger control, reminded him of proper shot placement and he squeezed her off. He was shooting a 7-08 with Nos BTs downloaded a bit and the deer was DRT.
Anyway, it was a pretty good day. All he can talk about now is hunting so I'm pretty sure I have a hunting partner for life.
