As an Alaskan almost all of his life--and active military--my 30y/o son never got the chance to do a whitetail hunt. He chases sheep, goats, bou, etc when he can.

So, the kid flew to Idaho to deer hunt. Plan "A" was mule deer, but after four days with hard hiking and no bucks to be seen we opted for plan "B." We headed back to north Idaho to my place to hunt our acreage.

He hit the back treestand hard and saw several decent bucks--any would have been a great first deer, but he wanted 'the ghost'--the guy that came out at twilight, looked around and then disappeared just as a snow squall was starting.
His patience was rewarded a few days later when he got the guy he wanted.

Fine first whitetail buck with nine points and 11" tines.

He went back to Alaska a happy hunter...I think he'll be back to hunt deer!
