Came here to mention “Bird Hunters” and it’s definitely about bird hunting but sure there is a love song tangled in there.
When I read the thread title, the first song that came to my head is "The Bird Hunters".

My opinion, it's definitely about bird hunting, definitely about missing home, definitely about regretting a relationship ... All of the above, not just one.

Listening to it now for the first time in a little while ... damn it's a beautiful song, especially for a bird hunter.

My opinion, Evan Felker and Zach Bryan are two of the best Americana lyricists alive right now.
They are both great. Tyler Childers belongs in this conversation as well. James McMurtry as well. There was another thread about this recently. I've been digging a few lesser known guys lately. Check out John R. Miller and Vincent Neil Emerson if you haven't already.

there is an old logging road above my cabin where we hunt a lot of mountain quail. whenever I hear that song I go to that place in my mind.

I liked Tyler Childers initially starting when he was still relatively unknown, but I've soured on his music the last couple of years. It's like he's trying to hard to be something he's not, or maybe just trying too hard, not sure. "Universal Sound" is still one of my favorite songs though. I'm still a Sturgill fan as well (except for that one anime/rock album he came out with that I still can't unhear).

I'll definitely check out those recommendations. You've probably been down the Charley Crockett rabbit hole, but if you haven't check him out. Will Carlisle is another one I came across the other day that I liked.

Caught the first night of the Tyler Childers tour in New Orleans last week. Fantastic show.

“Fly Eagle Fly” by the Marshall Tucker band has long been my favorite “hunting song”

Luke Bryan has a few. ‘Prayin in a Deer Stand’ and ‘Huntin, Fishin, Loving Every Day.’
‘Opening Day’ by Rhett Akins is my favorite

Funny I'm the exact opposite. I love Childers new album how he does the same song 3 different versions I think its brilliant. And the Sturgill album Sound and Fury is IMO his best album!

Its like hating on Bob Dylan for going electric when he's just experimenting and branching out. I'm a huge music nerd though.
