Solo HNTR Rifle Cover Review, By Jim Carr

Just might be worth a try. I use scope covers and tape my muzzle but you can plainly see the outside of the action getting gunked no doubt crap is getting between the barrel and stock. I don't really care about scratches but I don't want to carry a cleaning kit and always seem to forget the Bore Smake. Thanks for the review.

I have used it for a couple years now and have no complaints. Yes it comes at a weight penalty but it was so nice to be able to toss the cover on and not worry about the rifle laying on the ground in my floor less tipi. It provides full coverage while being easy and fast to take off when needed.

Worth its weight for the same reasons, to me.

I bought two of these cases in a camo/brown version a few years ago (one for a gift) and they perform as designed...great! I typically use mine during deer season while hiking to one of my stands in the dark. Whether it is snowing, raining or simply snow on the trees - the rifle is protected until I'm up in my stand. The case also protects your rifle from minor bumps and abrasions. I'll be bringing it to Wyoming this fall for elk season but hope the weather cooperates so I don't need to use it :) But like most emergency/inclement weather gear, you want it with you when you need it most. Hope this helps...

Been using one for several years. It’s worth the weight penalty IMO. Also, I think that it kind of makes other user groups a little more comfortable at trail heads, popular trails etc. might seem absurd to some, but it’s kind of equivalent to having a gun in a case as far as the casual observer or some one not comfortable around guns is concerned.

I’ll also add that I left my Mzl in camp while going to filter some water and a bear came along and decided to eat my gun. He ended up tossing the Mzl down a hill and munching on the rifle cover instead. It was a shocking and confusing come scene to return to, but I still have the cover and it still has bear tooth holes in it.

Me and my hunting homies have been running these for a few years now. Can't say enough good about them. Great review and highly recommend them.

Thanks for the review Jim!

Does anyone have experience with this product vs. the rapid rifle cover? Been trying to decide between those two for a while now. I feel as though the rrc may be more convenient for less harsh environments/hunts.

After watching a buddy have his gun freeze from getting snow on the action with a 300" bull 150 yards in front of him, I copped on one of these and have been super excited about how slick it is to take on and off the rifle while providing sweet protection.

Great review here Jim!

In the review the author states:

"I have the original XL model which I weighed @ 7.3 ounces. They have since come out with a model that also covers lengths from 40-56 and comes in at just 6.2 ounces and has a price of $34."

Yes those weights are correct.I haven't checked out the Caldwell rifle cover,so i wouldn't be able to accurately tell you the differences.Same with Rapid rifle cover. However i can't imagine a rifle cover being much more convenient than the Solo as I found it very convenient.

Great review! I've been using one of these covers for the past two hunting seasons. I bought it after noticing some rust built up on my rifle's blued barrel. It has really kept the rust down the past two seasons. It's really nice to be able to set my gun down and not worry about damp/wet grass or tundra.

In the spirit of cheap-stuff-that-works, Caldwell has an eerily similar case (no idea which came first, or if the SOLO HNTR is a rebranded Caldwell) which is available on Amazon for $16.85
