I'm a computer nerd by trade and looking to expand my skills. One of the skills I'm looking into is software development but need some direction and focus. I don't want to just make any ol' boring software to start. I need the motivation to learn and to build so I figure why not try and make some sort of software for what I enjoy doing outside of work.

What sort of software do you think is missing in our world of outdoors/hunting/fishing and whatever else? I know we have plenty of different mapping programs but is there something else that could help? or even a app on our phones that could help us in the field?

May be a bit of a stretch and there is much out there needed. This forum is full of some very clever and smart innovators so figured I would start here for some brainstorming. Feel free to throw your ideas out there!

The only thing I'm missing is offline maps for the pc side of onx. I have a work around but onx on my laptop without service would be a lot easier.
what is it about using it on your laptop that you prefer over using a phone or tablet that has offline mode?

I would think carrying a laptop in the field would be a pain so im quite curious to hear your reasoning!

I don't use tablets; 3" screen vs 14". I use GE Pro more than Onx, and the only draw back to GE is I have to download GE sat imagery and topo's for offline use, which takes forever. All my other overlays in GE are local KML or KMZ and don't need service to load in GE. I can get by with lesser quality Onx imagery and would do so if it was available offline.

Develop a program that deletes every post from every hunting influencer on every media platform within .007 of second after its posted.
now we are talking about a golden idea.. though i dont know that i could make something like that i think it would make the world a better place!! haha

Make a program for streamlining western hunting for non-residents. Set your filters and it shows you a highlighted map. For example:

Species: Mule Deer
OTC or Draw: Draw
Weapon: Rifle
How many points: 3
Odds%: 75+

Species: Pronghorn
OTC or Draw: Draw
Weapon: Archery
How many points: 5
Odds%: 100

Species: Elk
OTC or draw: Draw
Weapon: Rifle
How many points: 8
Odds%: 50+

It shows you a zoomed out map of highlighted states that meet these requirements. You can zoom in on each state to a show every highlighted unit that meets this requirement. Click the unit and it has links for application instructions/deadlines.

Not sure if GoHunt does this cause I’m not paying $150 to try it. But this seems so user friendly and would make hunting trips way easier to plan. FYI saving this post so if it shows up on the market at least give me free membership! Haha

Thats a good idea really! i think GoHunt has something similar so ill have to look into that!

Please do save the post! you'
