Same, kinda disappointed that we can't just verify some other way than paying. Some forums has a post count thread and I don't see one on here but could be wrong.

I don't think it's to offset costs. I think it's to discourage scammers from joining and posting 10x on the same day in order to steal from the rest of the members. Many have pushed for a higher charge, longer wait - or both.
