So silvertip vs jimmy tarps granite mountain

I was looking to buy a new shelter that will mainly be used as my solo shelter but also occasionally with my wife . Any where from 3-7 day hunts or backpacking trips ranging from the late summer in california to early september in colorado . I currently run a marmot pulsar2 but its almost 4lbs so id like to lighten up as much as possible im currently debating on the so silvertip and the 2017 jimmy tarps granite mountaion .thank you everyone in advance

Never seen a Granite Mtn, and I work for SO, so take the following with appropriate salt:

They seem like totally different shelters. The Silvertip seals to the ground, has sod skirts, two doors, and is built to shed wind. Twice the weight, lots more beef. When we say it's for alpine conditions that's not just marketing. If ridgeline camps way up are your default than you're a Silvertip guy. A shaped tarp like the Granite is going to vent better and makes more sense for basin camping, elk hunting, more humid conditions, etc. Condensation issues in the Silvertip tend to not be a problem when the wind is constant at 30 mph. If that sort of thing is a rarity there are better options than the Silvertip.

I'm curious on the last comment about better options than the Silvertip. Do you mean that the Silvertip is best only in conditions that are more exposed and windy and that a different tipi/tarp would be better for more sheltered areas? If so, what is a better option in those conditions?

Yes, if you take things like gentle precip and bugs into account. A flat tarp with nest, or a shaped tarp (Granite Mtn, MLD Patrol shelter, etc, etc) don't provide 360 degree protection but do provide more venting while keeping mild weather out. A buyer would do well to think about which scenario is most likely and buy accordingly.
