Trying to decide between a few different Shelters. Wanted to know if anyone has used the Mountain Guide Tarp? I've read a few different reviews of the Seek Outside Cimmarron and heard good things. Would love to hear some opinions or first hand experiences..

I've got a Cimmarron with a Lite Outdoors Titanium (Ti) stove. They heat up (and cool down) quick, and are quick to pitch. The only thing I'll advise you on with a Ti stove is to burn it in before you head out. Ti has a memory, and is moderately difficult to set up the first time. After that, it's easy. The metal "wants" to spring back into the way you need it.

I have been using the SD Mountian Guide Tarp for the past two years. I initially intended for it to be my "budget" friendly (Promotive deal) floorless shelter introduction. But thus far I been very impressed with the performance for the price and it will be coming along for Alaska moose this fall. Its been through some pretty serious rain & wind storms and has earned my confidence. Someday I will replace with a sawtooth, but for now I can't justify the cost. I love the center height and the sod skirt, its an absolute palace for two guys and gear. In addition to a bit of seam sealing, I added a Bearpaw stove jack, Lite Outdoors cylinder stove and upgraded to MSR stakes. only complaint is that its a bit heavy at 5 lbs and the zipper has a tendency to snag at the bottom when your in a hurry to pee at 3am!

My photo posting skills aren't the greatest, but if you want to see it in action PM me your number and I'll send a few in a text.

BBalash thanks for the info. I've been contemplating the same promotive deal. It sucks that it's twice the weight of the cimmarron but it's 70d vs 30d nylon and its 1/2 the cost. I've seen a few places where guys have added a stove jack which I would eventually do.

Promotive.com has insider pricing for professionals in the outdoor industry or in Military/LE/EMS. There's a ton of different brands on there from big Agnes to paddle boards to food. If you fit their criteria I'd say get in on it!

A little late to the discussion. I haven't used the Mountain Guide Tarp but it looks like an interesting option. However, I think there are some pretty big differences between the two. The MGT with sod skirts looks like a great winter shelter but as you state, it's weight is a bit heavy. I love the Cimarron and even with the stove jack, it's still a bit lighter and I wouldn't hesitate to take it just about anywhere. Also, I have a Nemo Pentalite that I never use if you have any interest.

How much you asking for the Pentalite? PM if you want. To the OP, can you get a liner that fits that SD tarp? I guess you could get a custom one made

I was wondering that as well.. I figured you'd have to have a custom one made.. Ti Goat sells one for their tipi and it's pretty close on dimensions.
