My wife and I are finally (now in my 50's) getting a chance to hunt a spring black bear. Given time and travel considerations our first choice is the Snowy Range. We've been heavy into the research/e-scouting and now wondering if anyone has insight into good DIY strategies for the area? Lot's of glassing or should we expect to be hunting forest service roads (are there a lot of gated roads to walk)? Is it worth to bring our side by side? We aren't 25 years old but we are in decent shape without any major physical obstacles. I know bear densities are higher in other parts of the state but does anyone have any advice that might help us cut down on the learning curve or waste a little less time trying to figure it once we get there?

Good to know and I’ll definitely keep that in mind. As a relatively new hunter, I’m not sure that I’ve had much to add to all of the other threads that I’ve read here over last 3-4 years. But, I will for sure continue to look for opportunities to contribute. If I can help anyone learn a fracture of what I’ve gotten from these forums, I’ll be happy to do it.

Monitor the mortality quota for the unit you’re wanting to hunt. Have back up units as reserve options in case the unit you’re hunting closes. You don’t want to drive that far and end up in an area you can no longer hunt. Units 8 & 9 usually close quicker than the bear units in western Wyoming. A side by side or atv would be helpful depending on what part of the unit 8/9 you’re in and the time of year. I included 9 because the sierra madres are near the snowies and offer another option if one unit closes before the other.
Here’s the WY number to check current harvest quotas once the season opens:
1 (800) 264-1280

SE Wyoming bear hunting is an excuse for local people to go hiking and kick around the mountains. If you don't run a bait site, you stand a very slim chance of ever seeing a bear. No offense, but I can think of 10 other areas that are OTC for bear that would be better options.

Keep driving to ID
