I'ma fan of the altais also.

For snowshoes I've had good luck with Northern Lites tundra model. 9.5 x 32 and 49 oz per pair.

I don't think they are as mountain capable as the MSR shoes but for most of the places I go they work fine. And yes they are pretty light.

btw the shoes I used for the Stuart Peak trip are the MSR Shifts- a youth shoe, but fit my size 11 shoes w/o any issue, very good grip under the deck, aggressive crampons and very good bindings

not for powder or rotten snow, but for typical spring snow (consolidated) they work pretty well, especially if you're going back and forth between shoes and no shoes

How many of you 'sliders snowshoe?

I am new to Colorado. I started almost a year ago have done twin sisters and lost lake. It is a great workout and i think the best shoes are MSR all gear they make is gold. Never had an issue and return policy is fantastic.

I have several different sizes, but I don’t use them very much, only occasionally. Used a small pair (821’s) last week and quickly realized that I probably should have sized up to 931’s for that hike.

I'm just starting to mess around with the Altai Hok "trekking" skis. Wish I woulda had them for late season elk and deer hunts! Beat the heck out of post holing to your knees.

^ This trip my Hoks would have been certain death for me :D there were a couple of climbs that would have been challenging, but more importantly I couple of steep descents I would have been toast!

I have had my Hok's out several times this year and in many terrains, they absolutely rock- more flotation and much quicker covering ground (especially descending)

Someone with little kids is gonna want these. I'll sell them after this year. She's 3 right now....this pic was last week.
