Snow shoes

The MSRs are the way to go over anything else if you are going the snowshoe route. I've been there and done it in Colorado, thinking of getting some Altai Hok skies. Showshoes are ok but if you want to cover ground there are better ways.

Hard to argue with the MSR lightning ascent. I have atlas montagne snowshoes and like them but if I was getting a new pair, I’d take a hard look at the lightning ascent.

MSR makes great snowshoes, I have two pairs of the old Denali classics and two pairs of the lightening ascents. I have the tails for them as well, but unless I am on flat terrain they are a pIan to use when constantly stepping over stuff.

I am just getting into the backcountry ski gig, I am not very efficient on them, snowshoes are much easier and more efficient for me to use, they are also easier to pack!

Get the 30" pair. I got 25s with tails, and it's just barely enough. Icy/crusty snow, they're tough to beat. Got a pair of 10x32" norther lites this year, and they've been better on soft snow so far, but don't sidehill as well. MSRs are tough to beat for steep climbs and sidehilling.

If your gonna get snowshoes the MSRs are nice but skis are far superior in my opinion.

The MSRs are nice but noisy, just be aware if you are using them for hunting.
How are these any noisier than other snowshoes?

Legit question, not trying to be a smart ass. I have been snow shoeing will folks using other brands and it didn’t seem like any of then were more or less noisy than others. The snow crunching was what made the noise.

The Lightning’s are pretty loud. The frame is attached to the deck with metal clips, that and the frame is all sharp metal, so you have metal on metal moving around every step. They are just loud, lots of clacking walking in them.

Not to say others are quiet, but the Lightnings are on another level, as are the msr plastics.

I guess I have never really noticed, I have shot a ton of grouse off my MSR snowshoes. Now I am going to have all kinds of anxiety using them……

In CO? Grouse are dumb there!

If I’m using snow shoes to hunt it’s usually for coyotes, in that case I like to move a little quieter.

Picked these up at Costco today. Cost a fraction of the MSR . But similar design.
