Snake Avoidance Clinic in Kansas City: July 26th

We've had 2 dogs hit this year in the area. Unfortunately both were snake trained. $7000 grand each for anti venom. Scares the crap out me for my hounds.

Training has to be snake specific....so if you trained with western diamondbacks and they ran into a prairie rattlesnake or copperhead...the training doesn't help. Where I live we have pygmy and timber rattlesnakes, water moccasin, copperhead and coral snakes. You rally can't train for all of that.

Where I bird hunt in ND, SD, MT etc., is mostly prairie rattlesnakes so that is what the clinic will use.....for guys that travel to hunt in that area. I also do the rattlesnake vaccine.

Dog may not see or smell the snake until it's too late or be a knucklehead and stick their nose in anyway.. I'm going to re-do the training every couple of years to try to reinforce it. IMO it's pretty affordable all things considered. Good for you for getting your dogs the proper training and treatment. We can't eliminate the risk but we can try to reduce the chances and you've done everything you can short of not hunting.
