Anyone have any tips to share for glassing during wildfire smoke season in the west? This has been an issue for the last few years hunting early season. Already bought the best glass I could justify to the CFO.
The best thing I've found is pack a lightweight tarp with you and use it as a sun shade. It helps keep access light out which also reduces glare.
Also understanding wildfire behavior. Generally, you will have more smoke/haze at first and last light, which of course screws up the ideal time to glass. Once the barometric pressure decreases and the thermals begin to rise usually it'll clear up.
Unfortunately, other than that there's not much else you can do. Try and keep your back to the sun as much as possible and stay in the shade.
