Smart phone vs gps

I use onX on my phone but carry a garmin oregon450T as a backup

My buddy and I both used iPhones this year in Montana late season. I used Earthmate and he used OnX. When the temps dropped the iPhones screen function when to hell. We both wished we had a gps on those days. If your weather is going to be warmer then the phone will be fine, but if you are planning on the late season or cold temps have a gps.
