What is the smallest, lightest blow torch for lighting a titanium stove?

I fumbled around with a lighter one time in the backcountry. The rest of the time lighting it has been with a blow torch - it's burning in seconds. Really would make things a lot easier when it's zero degrees and 3:30 am.

I know there are lighters that are some level of a "blow torch", but I think something with a little more oomph might be better.

Thanks!

I have used one of these for a few years around the property for frozen locks , starting fires and various other tasks It has worked well for me.

I once had some really tight spots i needed to solder some pipes in. I ended up using a very small "culinary" butane torch. Worked great for that project and it would sure light your stove. Plus you can refill them cheap.

What kind of cook stove do you use? My Soto windmaster (without the pot stand) fits nicely inside the door of my tigoat stove. Been lighting campfires, and now the stove, with the stove for quite a few years.

Not a lighter but Vaseline embedded cotton balls are your friend.

Yeah I go alcohol soaked myself. Easier to deal with and cleaner imo. But my point is that I have always considered one of those long grill lighters worth the weight penalty.
Anyway OP try a baggie with either of these and a long lighter. I think you’ll find it a great substitute for a torch.

I went on an early spring float trip down the Smith River, and it was basically mid-winter conditions when it wasn’t raining. Anyway, we brought some redneck buddies from Helena and they used road flares to get fires started.

Mini road flares would get a pile of wet wood burning when with very little effort. I’ve never used them since, but would imagine they would work very well in a stove.

This is interesting. Chop off the handle and it wouldn't be bad.

dryer lint in a dip can works well also. No point in carrying a torch lighter when home made fire starter works better and is lighter.

@Randle -- I looked at the link you posted for that lighter and it says it works well up to 8,000 ft. Perhaps that is a conservative figure. What altitude were you at? 8k is not even the bottom of the mountains I hunt?

I've been up and down the block a few times with all this. Versus anything else I've tried (many things) I like the simplicity and ease of a $5 butane-filled grill lighter and some WetFire tinder. It's just too easy to spend a couple bucks and solve the issue with maybe 5 ounces of weight. No torch.

Bic lighter and parafin soaked dryer lint. I make little pucks in an old ice cube tray and use my wifes never ending collection of scented candles. Kind of nice lighting a fire with a coconut rum scented fire starter.

I’ve done a couple of things.. Vaseline soaked cotton balls and used my MSR pocket rocket as a torch when needed, but still only pack a mini bic.

One time I couldn’t get it going and that was in super heavy wet snow in MT- was also the first time having the stove and tipi out.

Sure the OP can speak up for himself, but I think 80% missed the intent. You have basically an aluminum beer can with a 4" square to work through. Unless you all have some micro monkey paws.....schitt isn't that simple to run on the inside of the can.

extended grill lighter in this camp and eat the penalty. Watching

Still wish I had a torch as I'm packing for a week in the backcountry with 0 degree temps.

Sticking the jetboil inside the stove wont work too well I dont think.

Probably going with pyro putty and a grill ignitor for this trip .

Bump for more ideas on the torch!

Google “Eagle Torch”. Don’t know where they’re sold. I found this one laying at a trailhead. Sounds like what you’re looking for.A317AA77-A1C7-4594-BCB8-512831196BB7.jpeg

I’ve used this for years, weighs 1.5 oz without the lighter in it. Just slip a bic in it and you’re ready to go

Easy - mini cigar torch. I bought a 2 pack off amazon for $15. They are small and refillable, so only good for 2-4 day hunts. Get a slightly larger one or carry a mini refueling canister of high quality fuel for extended trips. Been using mine for 3 years now and torches are where its at. Burns wet tinder like its the 4th of july.
