Sling set up?

I know this may seem silly but just wondering what set ups are you using or have found works with the different situations that you have faced sheep hunting. I have never really paid attention to my sling besides just a simple old fashion sling. I haven’t done a strictly backpack mountain hunt. You see all kinds of different rigs with quick releases with pack straps. Double strap over your head etc. thoughts?

What are you needing from a sling that might be different on a sheep hunt?
When I'm backpack hunting, I carry my rifle in hand in case I see something makes no sense to me to not be ready. If your not hunting you can just use the pack compression straps to stowe the rifle for those long pack ins.

If strictly a backpack hunt, I typically will not have a sling on rifle as it’s just added weight and rifle is strapped to my backpack most of the hunt.

If doing a horseback hunt, then I use a claw sling which I’ve found to be the most comfortable on the shoulder off the horse or if in Asia, Rambo style across my back 🤦‍♂️

I use either a Montana brand leather sling or a rubber one I bought from Allterra Arms I believe. I can make a hasty loop sling out of either and both have helped me shoot sheep (and a goat).

The Montana sling is my favorite, I throw on whatever I’ll likely be wearing at that time of year as far as layers go, figure out where the adjustable cuff will go to make the loop sling, and draw a line in sharpie on the sling - that way I can loop up quickly.

So lets go slightly different approach. Thoughts on attachment to your pack. The Kifaru Gun bearer, the Slik Sling V3 or maybe the stone glacier strap. What do you use? What have to tried and disguarded?

I tried the Kifaru Gun bearer, for me I started to feel pressure/mild pain on that hip on long hikes. If it wasn’t for that, I really liked it. I prefer my rifle strapped to my pack.

I bought the slick sling (the original I believe, have not used the new v3 version) last year for packing my rifle on my pack last year.

I really like the slick sling, securely holds my rifle and can release reasonably quickly/easily with a little practice.
