Hello!

What type of sling are you guys running on your rifles? Did an aoudad hunt and had to carry the rifle miles and miles and not looking to do that again. Here’s a picture of the bottom of my seven backcountry I would like to put a sling on. Any recommendations on the best way to mount one would be great also. Thanks in advance!

I'm using a couple of RifleCraft the last couple of years, but the intent behind them is for sling-supported shooting where useful, not packing comfort. For comfort, a thick neoprene one can be about as comfy as it gets.

Lately I'm rarely using a sling but bring a simple lightweight webbing sling (no padding) rolled up in the pack pocket just in case. When hiking many miles in I might strap the rifle to the pack. When actively hunting I set it in the Kifaru gun bearer and it is hand free. My budding is still using a sling and I see him constantly having to hold the sling so that is doesn't slide off his shoulder. He had trouble scrambling one hand holding sling while I was able to use both hands to help climb the steep stuff.

For a padded sling I'd go with my quake claw 2.0.

I appreciate the responses. Dumb question…..how do I attach it to the rifle? I have a stud in the rear but up front I have the salmon river trinity rail. Thanks!

I've come to the conclusion that slings on a rifle suck because they just get tangled and hung up in stuff. Can't really use them with a pack on. Only one I sort of like is a cross body sling like the Armageddon PRS sling.
I usually just leave my rifle in my pack and hike in the dark to my glassing spot and back in the dark. Any daytime movement I'll use a Kifaru GB.

I believe it has a qd cup. You just need a standard sling mount for the back and a qd for the top.

Edit- that’s a spartan adapter not a qd. You can get a picatinny sling mount and put it on there.

Side note-Do you use all 3 types of mounting surfaces? Seems a bit much.

@mattmann keep your gun slick. Get you one of these:

Do I need a kifaru pack to run that or is it universal? I have a few smaller Kuiu packs but was thinking of grabbing a smaller pack frame soon.

I don’t. When I got these I wasn’t sure what system I wanted to run. I’ve since settled on pic but do have an arca attachment on my tripod.

IMG_1290.jpegAs long as you have a way to slip the toggles into some webbing, it will be secure.

The old version of the slick sling is good too. “V3” looks horrendous and I wouldn’t buy one as a gift for someone else. They have ads up for v4. No idea what that will look like, but the gun bearer has been tried and true for a while now. If it fits your style, it should be gtg.

I tried this for awhile and felt like I was constantly flagging people with my muzzle, or at least too close for comfort. Anyone else have this issue or is it just me?

This is what I have for front sling attachment- hatch outwest pic rail. Rarely use a sling g though. Kifaru offers a “universal “ gun bearer where long Velcro strap wraps around any pack hip belt.

I carry unloaded the vast majority of the time, and especially hunting with another person. But if you're hunting with a partner in rough terrain or brush, your rifle is gonna wind up pointing at them unless you keep it in your hand all the time. It's just not always avoidable.

I think the gun bearer makes it easier to keep it pointed in a safe direction than strapping directly to pack, or a traditional sling. But I still wouldn't carry one in the chamber especially if you're with a partner.

I laugh when I watch any hunting show and they are clamoring around in steam terrain with a gun in one hand trying to figure out where to put it down or how to traverse an obstacle. Ill strap my gun to my back in the dark and many times when just hauling the mail traveling. Other wise a light weight sling over a pack stay works great. Never had it get "tangled on everything" as when you pull it off to use it just pull the sling tight.

Also, I've gone from frame pack one day to simple lumbar type pack the next...I'm not carrying my gun around all day in my hand.
