I’m trying to pick one of these 2 tripods and I notice that everyone here seems to favor the 624; and there’s little mention of the 634. I’m assuming the additional 2” of folded length and .3lbs of extra weight of the 634 model is why people are favoring the 624? Slik has refurbished 634cf twist lock tripods (legs only) for $175 and they go all the way up to 63”, whereas the 624 model only goes up to 45”. I find myself sitting while I’m spotting about 95% of the time so the 624 would suit MOST of my needs; but the idea of saving $50 and only giving up 5.5oz and 2” but getting a tripod that I can use sitting OR standing makes this a hard choice!!

I’m not currently doing any fully backpack-in, remote hunts but I’m considering some.

Which would you choose?

I have the 634 for the exact reason as you are stating. Very little weight penalty and the option to use standing. I use it sitting most of the time, but wanted the option to stand.

Well, y’all are making me feel better about the 634. Lol! Heck, compared to the PRST shooting tripod and a Manfrotto 55 series I use for a big video camera I run for filming hunts for TV, I thought the 634 sounded like a feather! Then I read people worrying about 5 ounces - I thought I was missing something or going crazy. Lmao

I run the 634.
I found in steep terrain even when seated the legs are long enough to compensate for the angle without using the center post elevated.
It is very stable. I can glass standing with my outdoorsmans heads and adapters. I also can use my sts spotter while standing.
To me the pros way outweigh the cons with the 634 vs the 624. JMO.
