Slik 634, 624 vs oben ct2331

Im looking at upgrading my tripod/head this year. Looking at these 3 tripods, or maybe an outdoorsmans medium. Any input would be appreciated. I want to use an outdoorsmans trigger head. Mostly using for glassing with binos, and up to a 65mm spotter. Thanks,

I'm going through a similar process.

Last year I ran the Slik 634 with the Vanguard head. I quite like the tripod, however I hardly made use of it fully extended so I'm planning on downsizing this year. I'm pretty set on the Slik 624, it'll do everything that I used the 634 to do plus save me weight and length.

I'm going to bite the bullet and get an Outdoorsmans head to top it with. Probably the regular Pan Head because I do some filming. The Vanguard was a bit jumpy when zoomed way in.

I just bought the 634 and I'm putting an Outdoorsmans micro pan head on it. The tripod has already come in and it's really nice and light but the head should be shipped Thursday so I have no opinion on that yet.

Hopefully it all works out great. I got the 634 instead of the 624 for the times I have to glass standing. It was worth the weight penalties for me and still lighter than my currant vanguard tripod.

Im wondering if maybe the promaster xc25c on s and s archery's site might be a bit more steady than the slik tripods, since it has a thicker center column

I have the Oben CT2331 and have been happy with it other than the collapsed lenght. The old style Slik 634 is available again through S&S Archery and I've used one and liked it too. I'm not sure what the weight of the Slik is but the Oben is 1.65 lbs if I remember correctly. Oben works great for sitting and is adequate for standing with my ATS 80. When I replace my Oben it will probably be with a Gitzo 0 series traveler.

yeah the oben looks pretty comparable to the slik's and promaster. Just a longer collapsed length as you mentioned. So many choices..

I put together a new system over the winter and this is what I went with ( buy once cry once ) Slik 624 twist lock outdoorsman micro panhead Swarovski STX w/65mm objective lens. And I'm so happy with this setup for my style of backcountry and flatlands hunting .

Just wanted to put in my slightly bias 2 cents. The oben isnt quite on the same quality level as the slik, with the promaster being the better of the 3. The Oben is a good tripod, although i ordered one a couple years ago, and had the twist knob fall apart in the first week, got it replaced quickly, and had the same thing happen. Im sure it was isolated to a single run, but put a bad taste in my mouth none the less.

Again, I'm a bit bias here, but i will say that after selling a couple hundred tripods since i started at S&S, I have not seen a single one come back.

I picked up a 623 Slik from Rob and put an Outdoorsman Micro on it. Only used it for a couple of months, but have been very happy with the setup. I'm a big fan of the twist locks on the 623. The tripod is legit and Rob was great to deal with. So refreshing to talk with someone who actually knows their products. Most of the stores I walk into around here the sales people know next to nothing... of course that's only when I can get them to stop looking at their computer or stocking shelves long enough to actually interact with me.
