I'm going on a fly in 10 day moose hunt to Alaska. I'm trying to make my mind up on what temperature rating of bag I should go with. I'm a warm sleeper. But I want to make sure I stay warm.
Better to err slightly on the cautious side imo; mid September means a wide range of temperatures, you could potentially see single digits- I think something in the 10-15 degree range should be pretty safe- especially if you sleep warm.
+1 on a good pad, ie Thermarest Xtherm (r value of 7)
Don't know if it's right or wrong, but on my 2 moose hunts I've used a 0 degree bag. Usually go to sleep with it unzipped and sometime during the night close it up. If it gets really cold I figure I can wear as much clothing as I need when in the bag. So far I haven't needed to wear extra clothes in the bag...yet.
