Hey everyone seeking advice on a sleeping bag. I've got about a 250$ limit and was looking at the mountain hardwear hyper lamina or the kelty sb both in 20 degree. The hyper lamina is synthetic and the kelty is 800 down fill, i can get both for about the same price. just wondering if you guys had any experience with these. I'll be in northern utah using the bag for backpacking and hunting from early spring-late fall.

Go synthetic if you plan to be in wet environment.

The SB 20 is available on Massdrop. If it was available two months ago, I would have gone with that. Instead, I'm trying the 20 degree Slumberjack Sojourn. I like the features, but the SB 20 beats it in quality of down and weight. Don't forget to budget an insulated pad.

I bought this at REI a couple years ago on sale for less than $200. It is a decent bag. Good for me to mid 20's-30ish. I am a cold sleeper. Great budget pc to get by for a few years to save for better 800+fill bag.

I'm going to subscribe to this thread since I am in pretty much the same boat and have the same question about the Hyper lamina bag in 20*. On paper and everything I read about it (which isn't a ton) says that it is a pretty legit option for a synthetic bag. It is also listed as weighing 47 oz., which is pretty reasonable for a synthetic bag. I believe the Kifaru slick bag in 20* might be a couple of ounces lighter than the Hyper lamina, but I'm sure it's more durable. For as much use as my bag will see, it's difficult to spend double the money on a slick bag when I can get the MH for right around $200.

Check out the ugly Eddie Bauer synthetic ones. The red and blue ones. They have the same insulation as the Kifaru slick bags and woobies. Good stuff. Best synthetic on the market in my opinion.

Not sure how much your wanting to carry but Wiggy's has %20 off right now. I don't have one personally but have heard good things about them, they are a little heavier though.

Just looked at these and you'v got me pretty intrigued. Currently these are on sale for $149 on the Eddie Bauer website. The regular bag is listed as being 84" long, which is 6" longer than the long Hyper Lamina which is listed as 78" long. That seems insanely long. Also, the Eddie Bauer is a 15* bag and is listed as being 3oz. lighter than the MH bag... Doesn't seem to add up, but the $150 price tag looks really nice.

Yeah. I've been looking everywhere for sleeping bags made with that insulation. It is so ugly though. Lol.

I got a Mountain Hardware Lamania Z Flame. I like it a lot. I went with the Lamina Z over the Hyper Lamina for the full lengthen zipper. I like to be able to hang a leg out or sleep with the bag open here in Texas.

I would look at enlightened equipment. I have no experience with quilts but I will be trying one soon.

That is a great call. If I end up going with the MH bag, I'll definitely be getting one with a full zipper!
