I am fortunate to have pulled an elk tag for Wyoming. The last week of September in the Jackson area, zone 85. Going with a long time buddy and his son. We will have guides and going in on horses to a camp. I'll need a lighter/warmer sleeping bag than I have. Hopefully I can find something a bit larger than a mummy bag. A quality inflatable pad is on the list as well. Thanks in advance.

Congrats on the tag!

Did they say you need a light one? If I were getting packed in on harses, I'd be bringing my cot, thick pad, and my big canvas flannel bag. They should already have camp set up for you and your buddy.

Good luck and welcome to the addiction!!

Congrats on the tag draw!! You'll have to keep us all updated on how the trip goes. When we did our last Colorado trip, it was all on foot, in a wilderness area, about the same time of year as your trip. So, as mentioned above, if you have animals bringing you in, weight is much less of an issue. I was trying to go nice and light, so I went with the Enlightened Equipment Prodigy 20 degree quilt, and an Exped sleeping pad. The quilt was just about perfect. We woke up several mornings with frost at around 10,500ft and I was plenty warm in just a thin base layer. Exped makes a ton of different pads, from very light, to big duo pads that are very thick. Their website is very helpful , as you can choose your desired weight and R-rating to narrow down your pad of choice. I believe those are worth a look at least. There are a ton of lightweight sleeping bag / quilt options out there today along with tons of great pad options. These are just what worked for me and my budget. Happy hunting!

Probably doesn't have to be the lightest but I can pack 1 duffel so space is a limitation

I’ve got a pad. Thermarest insulated neoair all season for 100. Long wide. Also have considered selling my bag. It’s a Nemo riff long 15 degree. It’s just a little too warm for me. Both these are light, comfy and pack small. The bag is a what they call a spoon shape for more room in the knees and shoulders
