Sleep System for your Dog?

I have an Australian Kelpie. The dog will be going on a few backpacking trips with me on the western slope of Colorado. I am acquiring a two-man TarpTent model for trips with the dog. I want to get an ultralight doggie sleep system, that can be carried by the dog in a doggie backpack.

What do you use inside your tent to keep a dog warm? Doggie sleeping pad, small quilt, etc.?

I have a blue healer and a chessie and they're both pretty self sufficient.

My girlfriend seems to think our Lab and German Shepherd need their own bag and pad.

An old girlfriend had a mutt, shepherd mix and that dog was fine sleeping on the bare tent floor. With the Kelpie being a short hair, I'm just wondering if the dog might need a small pad/blanket. I saw that ruffwear stuff and it looks alright.

For my dog I always bring a extra full size air mattress and he sprawls out on that. If it's cold I have a small down blanket to put over him. I will admit I pamper him, he's like my kid but better haha. But anytime it gets colder than 50 at night I'll bring the blanket just in case he needs it. He's a house dog so he's use to having certain comforts. As far as a light pack my dog the vet always said to avoid having him carry any weight so I carry his food and sleeping system.
Hope any of that helps

My Brittany either worms her way into my sleeping bag or pushes me off the sleeping pad shortly after I've fallen asleep.

I've started bringing a small compressible foam pad for the dog. He usually pushed his way onto my pad and the last thing I wanted was a wet dog or claws on my down quilt/bag.

I plan on trying a piece of egg crate foam. My dog tries sharing my pad with me also. If I have to get up in the middle of the night, I'll come back to the tent and find her laying in my bag with her head on my pillow.

I often bring my dog backpacking. He usually curls up on the bare ground no problem. I may be buying a thermarest to cut in half, half for him, the other half for glassing. I also have fleece blanket the I'm going to cut in half and hem to the perfect size.

Yeah, my dog is a house dog too. I think I'll get my dog a little inflatable pad, or cut a thermarest in half, like Ben said. Also, maybe a small fleece blanket or even a small down quilt. Something like that would only add minimal weight to my pack.

If I have to get up in the middle of the night, I'll come back to the tent and find her laying in my bag with her head on my pillow.

Dogs crack me up. :)

Just a piece of fleece - big enough to have the dog lay on and throw over the top when cold. Having the dog trained to kennel is nice, and having a bed for them to kennel to keeps them from walking all over the tent and bags when they are muddy or damp.

Well, I have about 20 pounds of extra fat. So, they usually just curl up next to me and it seems that my gut keeps em warm............:)
I also have an aussie kelpie along with 5 other dogs and she an amazing animal.
I always have a sit pad with me that I use for glassing and a bunch of other uses so I try to get them to lay on that but it always seems that they just curl up someone next to me and that is another reason why I have an extra wide pad.

We bought a kid's model REI sleeping bag that was on clearance. It is about half the length of our adult bags. She either curls up on top of it or if it is chilly, crawl inside of it. No pad but she seems to be happy and comfortable!
