Sleep Apnea while back packing

I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP daily but am doing an extended (10 day) backpack sheep hunt and am wondering what everyone is using in the back country. I have seen some mouth guards etc advertised but wondering if anyone has tried any of that stuff.

I don't need the "lose weight" BS because my condition is hereditary and not weight related.

For this coming season, I am going to try one of the mouth guards available online or from a dentist that practices sleep dentistry. If this doesn't work, there have been a bunch of new portable cpap machines that have come on the market this past year. Just google cpap for backpacking or travel. They are not cheap though.

I feel for ya. I have severe sleep apnea, and really struggle with a good nights sleep while in the back country.

Good luck in your quest.

First step is to be honest about your weight:D
Seriouslly, I have had a mouth pc for years. I was unable to use a CPAP. You just need to be able to clean it with some clean water and your toothbrush. Mine is made by ResMed.

I use / pack In a Resmed air mini and the pilot 24 battery with a solar panel. It’s super compact, about 4 lbs to have a cpap with me.

What solar panel are you using? Also wondering what the recharge time with the solar panel is for the battery. Thanks!

How many nights do you get out of a single charge? Im doing a 10 day mountain goat back pack hunt and will be taking a goal zero nomad 7 plus solar panel with me.

Real world experience with my CPAP in the back country… The Novat seven panel is not for the back country for CPAP maybe a phone. I also have the nomad 13 and I don’t recommend that either you need to step up to the nomad 20 which is 20 whites that will charge whatever battery you’re using in perfect conditions in about 3 to 4 hours. In less than perfect conditions I would double that and that would be the only way to get your batteries topped off

I get one full night (8 hrs) and a cell phone / headlamp charge. It has a USB port also.

Without charging other electronics I can get a night and a half or roughly 12 hours. Nomad 7 probably wouldn’t cut it. I’d go with the 20 minimum unfortunately.

The 50 watt I linked above has been a home run too. A bit heavy and bulky but it makes all the difference to me to have my cpap

Depending on your severity of sleep apnea you can have a snore appliance made for you by your dentist. If you fall between mild to moderate sleep apnea this is an option. I make them for my patients all the time.

That’s a great tip. I’m on the seriously severe side and would suck that appliance down my throat in an instant but it might work for my dad

Take a look at then TAPS appliance. You would have to have an opening like a whale to swallow that. It’s retained on your teeth tightly. FYI. Good luck.
