SLC 10X42 or EL 10X50

Take this for what it’s worth, just my take. I have 10x42 SLC( hd version ) and also 8x32 Els as well as 12x50 Els. I wouldn’t make that upgrade unless I had a specific reason to...and I can’t come up with any specific reasons. The larger objective and significant weight and bulk and I just don’t think a 10 X the performance increase is justified.

This!!! I prefer my 8x32 EL SV over any glass I have which underscores the point.

I would be using them in the whitetail woods in indiana. I have thought about 8 power 32 as well.

This would be a way better choice. My 8x32 is all I carry for whitetails. Great field-of view for getting on a deer fast and also excellent light transmission early and late.

For closer range bowhunting I carry Leica Ultravid 8x32 (pre-HD) glass......this is for most tree stand and elk hunting in cover. For open country, I prefer my Swarovision 10x42 ELs, including tree stands where I can see fields or open country way out there. Occasionally I use my Leica Geovid 15x56 HDs on a tripod too, especially if I don't have to pack them too far. I augment the binos with a spotting scope when hunting sheep, caribou (5-point plus backtine requirement in BC), trophy deer, etc. If I could only have one bino it would be the Swaro 10x42 EL. I've never used the 12x50s but bet they are great for long range glassing from a tripod, but pushing it if hand holding them off-hand, maybe fine if seated and can rest the elbows on the knees.......based on my experience with 15X versus 10X. Everyone's ability to hand hold an optic is different, some are shaky, some of us are steady....etc. Good luck with your decision!

I just dont know what to do right now. I like the 10 because I do hunt fields and timber from the ground. Sometimes 10 is too much sometimes its too little. I think I like the 50 because of the high objective lens but on the other hand I like the 8 because it is less power for the close areas in the timber.

I think 8x are perfect for what you doing. I use 8x even in high country on a tripod and never feel underglasssed.

no real reason to upgrade, Swarovision is nice, but your SLC's are often rated higher than the EL's in outright visual appeal.

I own the 8.5x42 EL's just because I was able to sit outside the store and play with several of them, and they were the best to my eyes. If money weren't an issue I would have gotten the 8x32 and the 10x50 or 12x50... but there are only so many interest payments before the massive discount I was getting at the time was made null by long term interest payments..

I'm kinda going through the same thing, except I'm trying to decide between SLC and EL. I love 10X42, even in thick timber. I love the size of the EL better, but I'm having a hard time deciding.

I upgraded this summer. Went with the SLC's. I liked the view through the EL's, but preferred the ergonomics of the SLC's. In the end, the price increase for the EL's wasn't worth it to me.
